Marvel Announces “Spider-Man: Far From Home” Prelude Comics

Published

With the release of Marvel Comics’ March 2019 issue solicitations earlier today, Spider-Man: Far From Home will fall in line with the previous Marvel Studios features by releasing prelude comics leading up to the film’s premiere.

It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s second Spidey movie will receive a pair of prelude comics with the first one slated to debut in March of next year.

These prelude comics have sometimes featured nuggets of new information – like a fact that the Avengers: Infinity War prelude hinted that Red Skull survived in Captain America: The First Avenger ahead of his appearance in the movie. More times than not, though, it is a sequential art retelling of the franchise’s previous film.

Back to the case of Far From Home. It seems that these prelude comics will follow the latter with the retelling of Spider-Man: Homecoming according to the issue’s sales solicitation.

The powers have been quite selective in choosing how to market the upcoming Spidey flick as fans are still without a trailer although footage premiered weeks ago at Brazil’s Comic-Con Experience. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Spider-Man: Far From Home will be challenging the titular character in more ways than one.

“We like Far From Home of course because it ties into Homecoming. Not just keeping that word going, which we like and we like it more than Homecoming 2. But the notion of “home” is a word that has dual meanings. We would like to continue with this MCU version of Spider-Man. So, [Spider-Man:] Far From Home has multiple meanings,” he said to Comicbook.

You can view the official synopsis and full cover for the comic below.

“War of the Realms:” What You Need to Know About Marvel’s Epic Event

Published

on

By

The War of the Realms has begun today as Marvel Comics’ next event series that launches with War of the Realms #1. Writer Jason Aeron re-teams with artist Russell Dauterman alongside colorist Matthew Wilson for a climax seven years in the making.

“The simple movie pitch is it is Lord of the Rings in the Marvel Universe,” Aeron said during an interview at C2E2 in Chicago. “It is all the worst villains of the ten realms invade Earth and wreak havoc. And that’d normally be a Thor story. That is normally the stuff Thor has to deal with. As we can see in the opening of War of the Realms, Thor cannot deal with it. He is taken off the board, so a Thor story becomes an everybody story. It is The Avengers. It is Wolverine. It is Punisher, and The Fantastic Four. It is all of the main heroes in the Marvel Universe having to deal with Thor stuff that they are not used to dealing with.”

“And the fun part is mixing up those elements, mixing up fantasy elements with Marvel Universe elements. Sometimes, that is Spider-Man wearing a Viking helmet, or it is Punisher having to up his arsenal to take on frost giants and trolls. There’s a lot of fun stuff to be had. Daredevil is a big part of that, getting leveled up in a big way. He looks different. He has got a big sword. His powers are different. Everything is different. That is sort of War of the Realms #2 you get the first taste of that.”

The scale of War of the Realms lives up to the comparison to JRR Tolkien’s epic fantasy saga. This may leave some Marvel fans, especially those who have not kept up with Aeron’s entire Marvel run, a little intimidating.

So, which is why we are here to help. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know and enjoy Marvel’s blockbuster superhero-fantasy genre mashup!

Mark Hamill Trolls Fans Wanting “Star Wars: Episode IX” Trailer During Super Bowl With “Futurama” Reference

Published

on

By

During the last Super Bowl, most Star Wars fans had ruled out learning any information about Star Wars: Episode IX, though others held out hope that it would be delivered a surprise. In classic Mark Hamill fashion, the actor posted to Twitter, reminding his fans that one scene in Futurama previously “revealed” the upcoming film’s title.

From there, Mark Hamill teased, “Disappointed there were no Star War trailers shown during the Super Bowl? Agonizing over how long you will have to wait until they drop the title? RELAX nerds! Futurama predicted it years ago, and we all know: cartoons. Never. Lie. EXCLUSIVE BREAKING ‘NEWS’: Episode IX: Yoda’s Bar Mitzvah.”

In addition, Mark Hamill shared a photo of the scene in which the animated series referenced the upcoming film. He also included various edited images of what Yoda might look like while attending such a ceremony.

Though this clearly was a joke on Mark Hamill’s part, the amount of speculation surrounding the title over the years will not have us surprised. And when the title is revealed, we learn that an obscure corner of pop culture had already predicted that title exactly.

However, this is just the latest in a long line of intentional misdirects from Mark Hamill. It’s likely an attempt to preemptively refute any possible details he might unintentionally reveal about the film. Not only do these teasers offer an opportunity to mess with his fans, but if anything he accidentally spoils any actual details, Hamill can always claim he was merely joking.

Since the first Star Wars film, things have changed a lot in the realm of secrecy. Mark Hamill was previously pointing out just how little security there was around that film’s script.

“I remember when I read the first Star Wars [script], I was like, ‘Wow, that is the goofiest thing I have ever read.’ Then I gave it to my best friend to read; I said, ‘What do you think of it?’ And he said, ‘It is really wild. It is crazy. Can I give it to Meredith?’ so I said, ‘Sure, go ahead.’” Mark Hamill recalled to Entertainment Weekly. “It went around to all my friends. Of course back then nobody cared. But nowadays it is like working for some secret deep state government organization, like being in the CIA. They are going to send rewrites over to Prague on this dark red paper that gives you a headache to read.”

Stay tuned for upcoming details about Star Wars: Episode IX! The film premieres in theaters this December.

“Avengers: Endgame” New Trailer Released During Super Bowl

Published

on

By

A brand new trailer for Avengers: Endgame has arrived during Super Bowl LIII. We’ve got you covered.

The new look at the film is consistent with the marketing plan seen for Avengers: Infinity War, which precedes Avengers: Endgame in terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universes storyline. During Super Bowl LII one year ago, Marvel Studios revealed the second look at Infinity War. And this year, Avengers: Endgame will be a direct sequel picking up where Infinity War left off.

Now you can watch the full trailer below.

While details of Avengers: Endgame remains a secret, the directors of the upcoming movie, the Russo Brothers, did open up about their approach to the biggest film in Marvel’s history.

“You cannot chase bigger because you get yourself into trouble,” Joe Russo said during an interview with Comicbook. “What you can chase is storytelling. So, everything for us is based on the story. This is obviously larger in scale than the Civil War because we have more than double the number of characters in it. And it is Thanos. And it is cosmic. The stakes are the universe. You cannot get much bigger than that.”

And while the Russo Brothers knew all along that Infinity War would lead directly into Endgame, their desire to chase that story was so important that they wanted to tell a complete tale with the first half.

“It was important for us because the experience we wanted to have at the end of this story was the scene of emotional completion, in terms of what the narrative was in the film,” said Anthony Russo. “And hopefully, they will have that similar feeling. It is serialized storytelling. The mission was not to make one long movie and get out the scissors and cut it in half because that has never been the most fulfilling cinematic expression. So for us, that commitment was to try and put a beginning, middle, and an end to this, and a beginning, middle, and an end to that.”

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26. In the meantime, Avengers: Infinity War is now streaming on Netflix.

Other upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films include Captain Marvel on March 8 and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5 this year.

“Avengers: Endgame” Star Anthony Mackie Confirms That Falcon Is Dead

Published

on

By

The star Anthony Mackie joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson in the 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Since then he quickly became a recurring face. After his debut, Mackie also made appearances in three straight MCU films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Captain America: Civil War. And it sounds like Avengers: Infinity War is indeed a close to the actor.

Eventually, Anthony Mackie has confirmed the fate of his character, Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Anthony Mackie was asked if the Falcon was gone. And in his response, Mackie claimed that the fate of Sam Wilson in Infinity War left him looking for new work. And that he would not be in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.

“Well, obviously, if you did not see part three [Avengers: Infinity War], spoiler alert, that I died,” said Mackie. “A lot of people died. So I am gainfully unemployed. And that is why I’m doing other movies now.”

You can watch the full video below.

Anthony Mackie’s character was one of many heroes and others who disappeared after Thanos snapped his finger and unleashed the power of all six Infinity Stones (a.k.a. The Decimation). That moment has become a pop cultural touchstone since Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters last year. Or just look at how The Simpsons borrowed it for one of their famous couch gags.

Regardless, we will find out who still has a future in the franchise when Avengers: Endgame comes to theaters on April 26.

In the meantime, Anthony Mackie reportedly will return to the screen for his own Disney+ streaming service alongside Bucky Barnes, Winter Soldier. So we can see these Captain America’s buddies once again!

Other upcoming MCU movies include Captain Marvel on March 8th, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th.

Star Wars Franchise May Have Created a Big Marvel Cinematic Universe Paradox

Published

on

By

The various movie and TV projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tend to walk a fine line between fantasy and real-world events. References to the real-life figures, trends, or pop-culture milestones always carries a potential danger of fixing an MCU project to a time and place that does not quite sync with other projects in the universe.

However, in the case of Sony and Marvel’s rebooted Spider-Man movie franchise, there is one reference that now has fans buzzing about a major potential paradox now does exist in the MCU.

Especially, if Star Wars exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what will Peter Parker think when he meets Mace Windu? To be clear, it seems quite obvious that the person who posted this on Reddit was doing so in jest. And that is how many fans have taken it.

If Star Wars technically exists in the MCU, what will Peter Parker think when he meets Mace Windu? from marvelstudios

Still, like anything about the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the Internet, this little Star Wars “plot hole” or “paradox” nonetheless has inspired some serious debate about the merits of the observation. Some fans also argue that it’s an oversight to have Peter Parker and Ned be so obsessed with Star Wars. Obviously when they’ll be interacting with one of the main stars of the prequels soon.

Furthermore, the only thing that Spider-Man: Homecoming confirmed is that Star Wars as a franchise and the Death Star do exist in the MCU. As some other fans point out, there is no evidence that the MCU Star Wars has the same storyline and cast that exists in the real world. To this point: Samuel L. Jackson is Nick Fury in the universe. And there is zero evidence that an actor named Samuel L. Jackson exists in the MCU.

If nothing else, it’d be great if director Jon Watts leans into this so-called plot hole, including a winking bit of dialogue about it in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home. That’s something like Tom Holland’s Peter Parker meeting Nick Fury, then asking Samuel L. Jackson, “Haven’t I seen you in a movie?”

Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War is already available on home video.

Other upcoming Marvel Studios films include:

  • Captain Marvel on March 8
  • Avengers: Endgame on April 26
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5.

Marvel Fan Released a Short Film of Moon Knight

Published

on

By

In spite of not starring in a film or television series, Moon Knight is still one of Marvel’s cult favorite superheroes. And then a new fan film eventually gives the character his due on the screen.

Moon Knight stands out from other Marvel superheroes for some reasons, and the most notable of which is his multiple personality disorder. Several people live inside the mind of Moon Knight, including Marc Spector, Steven Grant, Jake Lockley, and Khonshu, the Moon God that the character derives his powers from.

Eventually, Marvel fan Caden Butera alongside the team at Paradox Studios brought the troubled hero to life in a new fan film. They did a great job just showing how much potential Moon Knight holds.

The movie takes a more grounded noir style approach to the character, with Lockley doing some investigative work on the city’s mob dealings as a taxi driver. Earlier in the film, we see flashes of the Moon Knight. But actually, we don’t see the character fully until later. We also see that the character we followed earlier in the film was none other than Grant. And later, we see Spector dealing with his various personalities in a dark and fantastic sequence that conveys the struggle to maintain his mind.

When Moon Knight finally does appear, it’s as brutal a fight as you’d expect from him. And people get hit in the eye with crowbars. They get their throats slit, and even someone gets a shovel to their leg. It is pretty insane, and at certain points really quite violent. However, that’s a hallmark of the character. And if anything this proves that the superhero could make for one heck of a compelling lead in a show or movie.

It is also impressive when you consider that the film was produced on a shoestring budget. Butera is both writer and director of the film. He just hopes that one day we will get to see Moon Knight get his big screen debut.

“I, along with all the other Moon Knight fans out there, have been dying for the character to get his debut on the big screen,” said Butera. “He is such an awesome and complex character. I hope one day he will hit the limelight.”

You can check out the film in the video below. And for more, you can also visit the YouTube channel of Butera right here. The official description of the movie can be found below as well.

“Marc Spector is a man who has been shattered into four separate identities who come together to become the hooded crusader of vengeance: The Moon Knight.

Steven Grant: Intrepid millionaire stockbroker, taking down organized crime from the top of the ladder.
Jake Lockley: The late-night taxi driver who listens to the chatter of guilty as a means of gathering intel.
Marc Spector: Retired mercenary and seeking revenge.
Moon Knight: A mask-dawning punisher of the night.”

“Captain Marvel:” New Photo of Ronan Arrives

Published

on

By

While the countdown to Captain Marvel continues to tick down, fans are ready for their first adventure with the most powerful heroine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The ‘90s set film will feature the returns of many familiar faces, including the intimidating Guardians of the Galaxy villain Ronan, the Accuser of the Kree Empire. Recently, Disney has released a new photo of the character, showing a more comic book-accurate version of the Marvel villain.

You can take the full look at Ronan below.

(Photo: Disney)

Obviously, as we see in the new image, Ronan’s armor incorporates the classic teal colors of the Kree Empire’s Starforce. And it matches more closely with what Carol Danvers and her allies wear in the movie. Moreover, we also catch his face unmarred by the markings of blood he puts on himself in Guardians of the Galaxy. And it shows that this is a less intense version of the character at a different stage in life.

During a set visit, Jonathan Schwartz, the producer of Captain Marvel previously addressed this version of Ronan, played by Lee Pace. He then explained how the character changed between the events of the film as well as Guardians of the Galaxy.

“It is an earlier version of Ronan, who hasn’t become the radical zealot that we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy,” Schwartz said. “So he has his own station in the Kree society, on Hala. And he has his own role to play in the Kree military that interestingly intersects with Starforce.”

While the film doesn’t relate directly to the events of Marvel Studios’ first cosmic movie, there’ll be a through line that fans can follow to see how Ronan becomes the Xander-hating terrorist on at war with the Nova Corps.

“Just like there is a Nick Fury origin story buried in the movie. Buried a little bit deeper is the Ronan origin story,” added Schwartz.

Meanwhile, Carol Danvers also has difficulty navigating her path with the Kree, which will be a major point of the movie.

“I mean, lots of the movie is about Carol Danvers not remembering her human past,” said Schwartz. “When we meet Carol at the beginning of the film, she believes that she’s a Kree, and kind of has been inducted into the army. She is proud as a person. She loves being a Kree. Then over the course of her adventure, she realized there was more to her story than that. So the film kind of becomes her unraveling the root of her own origin, and the root of her own mystery.”

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” Star Jake Gyllenhaal Reveals the Reasons He’s Playing Mysterio

Published

on

By

Thanks to his major successes early in career, the star Jake Gyllenhaal was regularly considered to play some superheroes characters over the past 15 years. Now he finally made the plunge in the genre by playing Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Recently, the actor revealed that his main motivation for joining the film was the complex character that offered him new challenges.

While speaking with The L.A. Times, Jake Gyllenhaal detailed of his opportunity playing Mysterio.

“It is great. He is a great character. It is one of those things. People have asked me for years, ‘You wanna do a movie like that?’ or ‘If you’re asked to, would you?’ Then my response has always been, particularly since being at Sundance, so many of the stories have always been, for many years since I have been coming here, character-driven. And it has always been my desire, is to find something in that space. It seems to match my skills and also my own honesty. That just so happened that it does with the part. So I am glad that people feel excited about it.”

For many Spidey fans, this casting decision is a dream come true.

One of the films that Jake Gyllenhaal rumoredly had his debut for is Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man in 2002, but it eventually went to Tobey Maguire. Fans have only seen some brief glimpses of the actor in the first trailer of Far From Home, yet he was one of the standout elements that fans immediately connected with.

Jake Gyllenhaal is also known for compelling dramas like Enemy, Prisoners, and Nightcrawler, which occupy a different corner of cinema than big-budget superhero movies. Previously, Gyllenhaal noted that he was pleasantly surprised with the ways in which the cast and crew offered him a more intimate experienced than he was anticipating.

“Actually it feels like a smaller-sized movie when you are acting with the actors,” Jake Gyllenhaal shared with The Late Show. “They are great in this movie. There’s a great cast in the movie. And the director Jon Watts is really fantastic. He makes a space where you can try things out and play around. And it doesn’t feel like you are just sort of automaton, doing whatever.”

We will wait to see Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio in action when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” Officially Now Streaming on Netflix

Published

on

By

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man and the Wasp is the latest movie to become available to stream on Netflix.

The film is the direct sequel to Ant-Man, following the hero’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

You can read Ant-Man and the Wasp’ synopsis below.

“Scott Lang is grappling with the consequence of his choices as both a superhero and a father. But approached by Hope Van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, once again Scott Lang must don the Ant-Man suit and then fight alongside the Wasp. The urgent mission leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against their new powerful enemy.”

The film is directed by Peyton Reed and written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, alongside Paul Rudd, Gabriel Ferrari, and Andrew Barrer.

Ant-Man and the Wasp stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly as Janet Van Dyne, alongside Michael Pena, Walton Goggins, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, with Tip “T.I.” Harris, Hannah John-Kamen, David Dastmalchian, Abby Ryder Fortson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Randall Park, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas.

Following Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp is the second to last Marvel Studios film that goes to Netflix as part of a current deal between Disney and the streaming service.

Captain Marvel will be the last. Beginning with the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios films are likely to make Disney’s own upcoming streaming platform, Disney+, their new home.

Furthermore, Ant-Man and the Wasp also connects to Avengers: Infinity War and possibly to the upcoming Endgame. The film sets up Scott Lang’s involvement in the fourth Avengers movie and a possible trip to the Quantum Realm.

“The Quantum Realm did not exist in Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s original drafts,” says Reed. “When Adam McKay came on, he and Rudd were writing drafts. And McKay is also a big comics nerd. Then McKay and I were talking about the Microverse. In the movie that had a lot of shrinking, it would be great to figure out a thing in the third act for the purposes of the story was almost a cautionary tale. And if you turn off the regulator, it allowed us to give Scott Lang his moment of self-sacrifice, where he’s going to kill himself to save his daughter potentially. It occurred to us that we all love the sort of psychedelic side of the Marvel Universe. It is the Microverse in the comics that we re-named the Quantum Realm for copyright reasons.”
