Marvel Star Dave Bautista Wants to Play a Batman Villain
Dave Bautista is a fixture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his role as Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. The thing is, that does not mean he is opposed to playing a different sort of character over DC’s corner of the cinematic universe, and definitely, he is into one specific idea centered on Batman’s world. The Dark Knight has one of the most iconic lineups of villains in comics, so the options are many, and Dave Bautista could probably bring several of them to life in a unique way. However, thanks to a recommendation from B.J. Mendelson, now we know one villain. That’s Dave Bautista who seems to be behind all the way.
The discussion kicked off when B.J. Mendelson took to Twitter, sharing his thoughts on the new Joker trailer.
“Nope. Still not feeling the ‘Joker’ movie,” he wrote. “If you are going to give a Batman villain a standalone movie, it should be that Matt Hagen Clayface starring @DaveBautista.”
The Drax actor then shared that post, expressing Mendelson’s enthusiasm for the idea. He wrote, “I’m going to enthusiastically agree with you on that!”
I going to enthusiastically agree with you on that! ???????? https://t.co/ehPMYu4QPe
— Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) August 28, 2019
Actually, Matt Hagen is the second person to use the Clayface name in the comics. The character is much less well known than the original Basil Karlo, though fans mostly have known him of the Batman: Animated Series, which used the Hagen name but had a story more based on Karlo. Either way, a Bautista Clayface obviously has us intrigued, and we are all for it.
Dave Bautista also took a second to address the Joker movie. He cannot wait to see it, despite not really connecting it to Batman.
Odd thing is I’m dying to see it but my brain has not connected it to Batman at all. There’s a disconnect for some reason but I can’t wait to see Joaquin as The Joker. Looks interestingly dark and grounded in the vain of The Dark Knight series. I’m in!! https://t.co/4gLDfuJtnm
— Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) August 28, 2019
“Odd thing is I am dying to see it, but my brain hasn’t connected it to Batman at all,” wrote Bautista. “There is a disconnect for some reason, but I can’t wait to see Joaquin [Phoenix] as The Joker. Look interestingly dark and grounded in the vain of The Dark Knight series. I’m in!”
Dave Bautista has already proven how capable he’s at bringing comic book characters to life on the big screen, as his tenure in the MCU has been universally celebrated. Drax The Destroyer is a fan-favorite member of the Guardians, with Bautista constantly chewing the scenery and popping in one-liners. However, the character also has a heart, and we peel the layers of trauma and grief during each of his appearance on the big screen.
And just like that, Dave Bautista has thrown his name in the ring to play Clayface for the DC live-action universe. But we have to wait and see what DC and Warner Bros. will do with Batman and his supervillains when the characters remain unknown, as the contents of Matt Reeves’ The Batman is still being kept under wraps. However, there are a ton of characters that have not made it into the shared universe, and Clayface could be a great choice cinematically. Bat-fans out there would be thrilled to see Dave Bautista pivot his Drax character over to the DC side of things. In the meantime, the upcoming DC film is Joker, which hits theaters on October 4.

The set releases on Digital Oct. 15 and Blu-ray Oct. 29 in celebration of Batman Beyond’s 20th anniversary.

This physical set also includes a chrome Batman Beyond Funko Pop and lenticular art cards as well.
A side-by-side comparison debuted by IGN highlights the series’ HD remaster, applying to all but 11 episodes that have been damaged by time. They include “Eyewitness,” “Final Cut,” “The Last Resort,” “Armony,” “Sneak Peek,” “Zeta,” “The Eggbaby,” “Plague,” “Sentries of the Lost Cosmos,” “April Moon,” and “Speak No Evil.”

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has long known the fans’ desire to see this series come to Blu-ray. And we’re excited to finally have the technology to elevate the quality of the original assets to an exquisite high-definition presentation packaged with compelling collectibles in a limited edition set, especially as fans celebrate Batman’s 80th anniversary this year.”
Bruce Timm, who attended the 20th-anniversary panel alongside original series stars Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle, said a potential Batman Beyond revival is possible should strong Blu-ray sales indicate an interest in the series.
The price of this digital edition will be at $49.99 SRP USD and the physical set at $99.99 SRP USD. Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition releases October 16 on Digital HD and Blu-ray October 29.
“The Batman:” Vanessa Kirby Addresses Rumors that She Would Be Playing Catwoman
With Robert Pattinson set in place to star in The Batman, DC fans are already speculating about who will be among the movie’s supporting cast. And one of the most prominent rumors and theories has been that Vanessa Kirby could play portray Selina Kyle/Catwoman. And now finally the actress is speaking out about it.
Recently, during an interview with ET, Vanessa Kirby revealed that she did not even know whether or not she was actually up for the part, but that she would love to step into the role.
“I don’t know anything about it,” said Vanessa Kirby, who can next star in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. “Are you kidding?! I’d love to be Catwoman. Oh my god, it’d be a dream.”
Then, Vanessa Kirby went on to joke that in order to play Catwoman – and put on the sort of skintight outfit traditionally associated with that character – she would definitely need to prepare beforehand.
“Oh my god, are you kidding? I have to do lots of squats,” said Kirby. “I mean, literally, lots of squats.”
After a scene-stealing performance in Mission Impossible: Fallout last year, fans have wanted to see Vanessa Kirby tackle some sort of comic book role. Fans even campaigned for her to play Black Canary in Birds of Prey of next year, a role that went to Jurnee Smollett-Bell eventually. It is hard to deny that an action-packed role like Catwoman would fit in Kirby’s filmography, though the actress apparently did not expect that kind of career.
“I’ve just never thought in a million years I would be an action girt because I am just not naturally like that at all,” Vanessa Kirby explained. “But yeah, there’s something about this, particularly that made me feel like it was such a good opportunity to take care of this female character in the massively male world. And every day, we made sure in every area, that she was a capable fighter that she had all the best fights, and she was never saved by the guys… And I also hope it instills some kind of change.”
So, do you want to see Vanessa Kirby play Catwoman in The Batman? The movie will arrive in theaters on June 25th, 2021. Other upcoming DC films include Joker on October 10th this year, Birds of Prey (& the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7th, 2020; with Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5th, 2020; The Suicide Squad on August 6th, 2021, and Aquaman on December 16th, 2022.
“Batman Beyond: The Complete Series” on Blu-ray Potentially Releases This Fall
A listing for Batman Beyond: The Animated Series has surfaced on Amazon France with its release date of October 30. A Blu-ray upgrade hasn’t yet been announced by Warners Bros. Home Entertainment. The studio premiered Batman: The Complete Animated Series on Blu-ray back in October of last year.
According to the listing, Batman Beyond will be released for the first time on Blu-ray in a four-disc standard edition with the price around $67, in addition to a six-disc Deluxe Edition that costs around $112.
This complete Batman Beyond set will include all 52 episodes across three seasons and a direct-to-video feature movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker as well, which saw Batman: The Animated Series star Mark Hamill return to play his role, the Joker. The film was previously issued as a standalone Blu-ray in 2011.
Amazon France also lists a bonus disc as well as a total runtime of 1144 minutes.
It’s unknown what collectible extras are included in the Batman Beyond Deluxe Edition. Meanwhile, the preceding 12-disc Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition set includes three Funko Pocket POPS figurines, lenticular collector cards, and two bonus disc featuring animated movies Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is apparently to announce the set at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 18 – where the studio hosts a Batman Beyond 20th Anniversary panel.
Producer Bruce Timm and actors Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle are among the guests who will be featured on the Hall H panel, promising to offer fans “some exclusive prizes and cool announcements,” per a Warner Bros. Home Entertainment press release.
Produced by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Batman Beyond won two Emmy Awards and three Annie Awards as it captured the imaginations of a new generation of Batman fans, setting new standards for the superhero storytelling with innovative designs, outstanding voice acting and intriguing approach to DC’s iconic characters or stories. The series also spawned an acclaimed animated movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
Come celebrate this series’ 20th anniversary with many members of our creative team behind the breakthrough production, including producers Bruce Timm (from Batman: The Animated Series) & Glen Murakami (Teen Titans); eight-time Emmy Award-winning casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano (Justice League) and director James Tucker (Batman: Huck); writers Stan Berkowitz (Justice League: The New Frontier) and Bob Goodman (Elementary, Warehouse 13); alongside the acting stars of the series – Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) and Will Friedle (Boy Meets World, Kim Possible), with the voices of Batman and Terry McGinnis, respectively. Stay until the end for some exclusive prizes and cool announcements. Hall H.
Warner Bros. previously made the complete Batman Beyond series available in DVD format.
Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Film Reportedly Goes Into Pre-Production
Matt Reeves’ The Batman has reportedly gone into pre-production, according to the latest update coming out of the DC film rumor mill. DC movie scoopers are now pointing to IMDb Pro as evidence of the movie’s status change, as the site has switched Robert Pattinson’s Batman reboot film from “Script” to “Pre-Prod.”
Take a look at the screen grab one fan posted on Twitter:

“The Batman is officially in pre-production!”
It has already been announced that The Batman would be shooting in either later this year or early 2020, for its release in 2021. So far, Robert Pattinson starring as Batman is the only official bit of information that we have, in terms of casting, characters, and story.
It has been made clear that director Matt Reeves is interested in telling the most detective Noir Batman story that we have seen onscreen so far, with comparisons being made to classic movies like Chinatown. It seems that The Batman is going to focus on Bruce Wayne in a younger era of his life as the Caped Crusader, especially on the road to earning the title of “World’s Greatest Detective.” Hints from Reeves seem to indicate a lineup of iconic Batman rogues being a part of the story, and casting these rogues will be an equally big step of this movie.
DC fans even have been seeing a lineup of fan-casting choices or actors campaigning for roles.
For example, Frozen star Josh Gad has been claiming to play Penguin for more than a year or so. Meanwhile, Vanessa Hudgens is open to playing Catwoman, but recently, Mission Impossible star Vanessa Kirby was reportedly being eyed for the role. We’re getting hints that the casting process for The Batman may be well underway already, as Josh Gad recently took to social media, ending any speculation that he is the Penguin, thusly:
Ok, seeing as I keep getting this question…as much as I have LOVED torturing you all with teasing you about the Penguin, I feel like it’s time to tell you…I’m NOT actually playing this character. But I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the fan art and the love. ???????? https://t.co/fsasvbRTqN pic.twitter.com/igwnT2NNPw
— Josh Gad (@joshgad) June 21, 2019
Currently, it remains unclear when Warner Bros. and DC Films may actually share additional Batman casting information with fans. The studio is officially skipping a Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, which is where they traditionally reveal major details about the next slate of DC Films. Obviously, DC Films has been putting a lot of marketing decisions in the hands of respective directors, so pre-production apparently underway, and it should not be too long now before more of those official Batman details start to drop.
DC’s Joker hits theaters on October 4 this year. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to premiere on February 7, 2020, while Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020, and The Batman on June 25, 2021.
“The Batman:” Vanessa Kirby Rumoredly Being Up For Catwoman Role
According to Geeks Worldwide, Vanessa Kirby – the star of Mission: Impossible and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw – is reportedly being eyed for Catwoman role in the Matt Reeves-directed The Batman.
The site names Vanessa Kirby as “one contender” for the part, but does not name other actresses in consideration. The report also adds Warner Bros. likely has not yet entered into formal talks with her, who would play alongside Robert Pattinson starring Batman.
After news of Robert Pattinson’s hiring as a younger Bruce Wayne-slash-Batman, some DC fans took to social media with calls for Pattinson’s once Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart to play Catwoman. The femme fatale was previously reported to be heavily featured in The Batman alongside the Penguin, a role not yet cast, as part of the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery.
Still, details remain scarce, but last month, an early report from Forbes claimed Batman’s famed sidekick Robin will appear, as will veteran supporting actors Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Gordon.
The report also named the Riddler as one of the handfuls of villains who will be appearing in what Matt Reeves has described as a “noir-driven” and “definitive Batman story in which he’s investigating a particular case, and that takes us out into the world of Gotham.”
“I went on a deep dive again revisiting all my favorite comics,” Matt Reeves said at the Television Critics Association press tour back in September. “Those all inform by osmosis. There is no continuation of the [Christopher] Nolan films. It is very much trying to find a way to do this as something that for me is going to be Batman and new and cool.”
Though his movie centers on a just-starting-out Caped Crusader, The Batman is not based on origin tale Year One or any particular Bat-comic, Matt Reeves confirmed. Year One presented Selina Kyle as a dominatrix operating in the seedy Gotham City.
“Year One is one of many comic books that I love. We’re definitely not doing Year One,” said Reeves.
“I’m just excited to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and personal to him. Obviously, we are not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We are doing a story that is definitely Batman though, and trying to tell a story that is emotional and yet really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.”
Warner Bros. has dated The Batman for June 25, 2021.
Other upcoming DC films include Joker on October 10 this year, Birds of Prey (& the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7th, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5th, 2020. In the meantime, Shazam! will be streaming on home video on demand services, DVD, and Blu-ray next month.
Robert Pattinson Officially Confirmed as Batman
So now, it’s all set. After plenty of debate about potential casting of Batman for Matt Reeves’ new film, The Batman, including a report of continued screen testing recently, it looks like Warner Bros. has finally made a decision, that Robert Pattinson will be the new Dark Knight.
Deadline confirmed the news on Friday, claiming that the studio has chosen Robert Pattinson to lead a new trilogy of movies as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The initial report that Robert Pattinson had landed the coveted role actually came just a couple of weeks ago, but it was also being reported differently by various insiders and outlets. Some said the actor had already locked down the role, while others suggested that Pattinson was just a finalist. Another report from Deadline says that the entire thing it is now a done deal after a thorough screen test, and that Warner Bros. will be making their announcement any minute.
Robert Pattinson was apparently a frontrunner for the role for a while, as Matt Reeves has been a big fan of the actor. However, WB liked the idea of Nicholas Hoult in that role and required screen tests with both actors. Then, a final meeting was reportedly held on Thursday, where the decision to go with Robert Pattinson was officially made.
This new take on Batman is now set to be a trilogy of films from Matt Reeves. That’s why the contract negotiations with Robert Pattinson could take a little bit of time. Probably there are options worked in for the next two films in the saga. This new series will follow Bruce Wayne during his formative years as Batman. And that’s why an actor in his early 30s was ideal, a stark contrast from Ben Affleck’s iteration in Justice League.
Sadly for the Batfleck fans out there, this new trilogy will have nothing to do with the version of Batman starring Ben Affleck for the past few years.
So, what do you think of this casting? Are you excited to see Robert Pattinson’s take on Batman? Share with us in the comments!
Fans Want Kristen Stewart as Catwoman Alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman
A subset of Kristen Stewart fans are now rallying in the hopes she wins the role of Catwoman, reuniting her with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, who was named as Warner Bros.’s “top choice” for the role of a younger Batman.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart dated amid their on-screen Twilight romance, a relationship that ended first in July 2012 as Stewart engaged in an affair with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. A short-lived reconciliation ended in May 2013.
The femme fetale, real name Seline Kyle, is a sometimes foe, sometimes lover of the Caped Crusader and has yet to appear in the DC Extended Universe, where Ben Affleck formerly filled the role of Batman.
Warner Bros.-owned DC Films also expressed interest in introducing the character when Suicide Squad writer/director David Ayer was tapped to develop Gotham City Sirens, a spinoff that would have centered around Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman.
Back in 2015, Kristen Stewart told Yahoo Movies that she was interested in joining a blockbuster superhero film franchise.
“I love watching those movies,” said Stewart. “I’d love to show people that I can do more than just be ‘Kristen Stewart’ in a different movie, in a different circumstance.”
The actress also pointed to her role as Snow White in the fantasy actioner as a jumping off point for a superhero role. “I am sure I could get on board with Captain America, you know what I mean? I’d just have to be the right thing.”
Last year, a Twitter scooper claimed that Warner Bros. was seeking a “Kristen Stewart prototype” for the role of Barbara Gordon, as known as Batgirl, in the superheroine’s planned standalone films. Back then, Stewart was also claimed to be in contention for the role.
Until now, Robert Pattinson has not yet officially been named the next Batman, a role he would fill for first-time DCEU director Matt Reeves. Deadline previously noted Thursday X-Men and Tolkien star Nicholas Hoult is still a candidate and reportedly a favorite of Reeves and the studio, topping a shortlist that includes Armie Hammer and Aeron Taylor-Johnson.
However, multiple petitions have already been launched seeking Robert Pattinson’s removal.
Warner Bros. has currently dated The Batman for June 25, 2021.

According to the latest report from The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Pattinson is the reported frontrunner for the role of a younger and less experienced Bruce Wayne/Batman, who is expected to face off against Catwoman and Penguin. Though plot details remain under wraps, Penguin and Catwoman are said to be two of six Bat-rogues set to appear in the Matt Reeves-helmed new film.
Penguin rumoredly has been the lead villain in The Batman as far back May of last year. A report of Variety claimed that Penguin was once in contention as the villain in Birds of Prey, the Suicide Squad spinoff that will star Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and a team of heroines against villain Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).
Warner Bros. previously expressed interest in introducing Catwoman to the DC Extended Universe when Suicide Squad writer/director David Ayer was tapped to develop Gotham City Sirens, another spinoff that would have centered around Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy.
Catwoman was last seen in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, where Anne Hathaway portrayed the character. In spite of the status as one of the most famous and recurring Batman villains, Penguin has not featured in a major motion picture since 1992’s Batman Returns, where he was played by Danny Devito.
“You cannot have Batman without a villain,” Matt Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter in January. “There’ll be a rogues gallery.”
Unlike past movies, which only touched on Batman’s moniker as “the world’s greatest detective,” The Batman will present a caped crusader in full sleuth mode.
“It is very much a point-of-view-driven, noir Batman tale,” said Reeves. “It is told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it is going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It is more Batman in his detective mode than we have seen in the films.”
Warner Bros. has currently dated The Batman on June 25, 2021.
The Batman Reportedly Will Feature Villains the Penguin and Catwoman
With Twilight star Robert Pattinson on the verge of boarding The Batman, additional details have begun to surface regarding the Matt Reeves production. Recently, in a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is eyeing iconic Batman villains the Penguin and Catwoman as two of the movie’s antagonists opposite Pattinson’s Caped Crusader. Meanwhile, Batman’s extensive rogues gallery will be on full display in the film, with Catwoman and Penguin being just two of the reported six villains that will end up appearing in the latest reboot.
It would not be the first time in live-action for either of the iconic Batman baddies, who have both appeared a handful of times. Burgess Meredith originally played Penguin in the original Batman TV series before showing up in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns played be Danny Devito is a now-iconic role. On the other hand, Catwoman has been played by Michelle Pfeiffer, Eartha Kitt, Anne Hathaway, and Julie Newmar, to name a few. Conveniently enough, both of these characters appeared on Fox’s Gotham, which just wrapped up its final season last month. There, Robin Lord Taylor and Camren Bicondova played the characters, respectively.
Director Matt Reeves himself previously described the film as a noir tale, claiming it would focus more on the detective side of this fan-favorite character rather than the gadgetry and explosive action we have seen in prior movies.
“It is very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” Matt Reeves told THR. “It is told very squarely on his shoulders. And I hope it is going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It is more Batman in his detective mode than we have seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He was supposed to be the world’s greatest detective. And that is not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I would love this to be one where when we go on the journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime. It is going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
Currently, The Batman is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
The Teaser Trailer of “Joker” May Have Revealed First Look at Young Batman
Joaquin Phoenix has made quite an impression in the first trailer for Joker film, which was directed by Todd Phillips. And there was plenty of other details to pick up on as well. The teaser trailer gave us several first looks at Joker’s world of characters, including Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz), Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro), Thomas Wayne (Brett Cullen) and Penny Fleck (Frances Conroy). In fact, that may not have been the only Wayne snuck into this trailer. And yes, it’s exactly the Wayne you are thinking of.
As we can see later in the trailer, a young boy is standing face to face with Arthur Fleck. The boy is seen on the house side of a large gate, giving the impression that there is a large distance between the gate and the building behind. That would also make sense if this were Wayne Manor, and the boy is well dressed as well.
Fleck then puts his hands through the bars, using his thumbs to make the boy smile. Especially since this takes place after the video we saw of Thomas Wayne criticizing the masked man who committed a crime, we are betting this is a part of Fleck’s reconnaissance of Thomas Wayne’s house and a creepy way when getting close to him without committing a crime actually.
All that evidence points to this being the young Bruce Wayne, and you can see the sequence in question in that image.
Now, this movie doesn’t take place within the continuity of other DC films. But this is more of a standalone take on the Joker, so unless there is a sequel to this particular movie, you will not see a bunch of ties to other DCEU films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, Justice League, or Wonder Woman. Still, it appears that they’re going to provide plenty of cool nods to the source material. And we are all for that.
Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix (Arthur Fleck/Joker), Zazie Beetz (Sophie Dumond), Brett Cullen (Thomas Wayne), Robert De Niro (Murray Franklin), Frances Conroy (Penny Fleck), Douglas Hodge (Alfred Pennyworth), Marc Maron (Ted Marco), Josh Pais (Hoyt Vaughn), Bryan Callen, Bryan Tyree Henry, Shea Whigham, and Glen Fleshler.
Here is the official description of Joker.
“Drama. Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis; it is an original, standalone story that is not seen on the big screen before. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (star Joaquin Phoenix), a man who is disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”
Joker is slated to hit theaters on October 4th.
