At one point, Spider-Man: Far From Home has made fans excited as it was going to be the MCU’s first large foray into the multiverse. After being teased in movies like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, the Spidey flick was supposed to wow our minds with interdimensional craziness. While Far From Home did amaze our minds, the whole multiverse talk was just a front put on by Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. Suddenly, it looks like fans will now be without any update of the multiverse until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in 2021.

In fact, that is why the Doctor Strange sequel could end up being one of the most important movies to be a part of the MCU to date. Obviously, both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were massive films in their own right that upended the current status quo, while Thanos (Josh Brolin) was still of this universe as he was a worldly being.

Once Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) really dives into the multiverse, the potential for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to grow suddenly jumps up tenfold. The introduction of this multiverse not only introduces a whole host of out-of-this-world villains like Dormammu, Mephisto, and Nightmare. That would also lead to plenty of opportunities with the good guys as well. Thinking of Miles Morales or Squadron Supreme, perhaps that is how the X-Men come into the mix.

Through 20-some movies, we have known the multiverse exists within the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We just have to go full-on bonkers with it finally and hope Doctor Strange travels between all kinds of crazy dimensions at will. And that is something we might actually get. After Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced director Scott Derrickson in the much-anticipated Hall H panel, the two revealed the sequel would end up being the first “scary” movie put out by Marvel Studios. That also means we could get the mind-bending dimensional travel, or we could get the spooky dimensions with Nightmare or Mephisto.

That means we are getting something we have never gotten to see before in this shred universe of movies. And if they play their cards right, that could lead to one of the biggest MCU films we have ever seen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to bow on May 7th, 2021. Other upcoming Marvel Studios projects include Black Widow on May 1th, 2020; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in fall 2020; The Eternals on November 6th, 2020; Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on February 12th, 2021; WandaVision streaming in spring 2021; What If…? in summer 2021; Hawkeye in fall of 2021; and Thor: Love and Thunder on November 5th, 2021.

The Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year was in full swing and has been filed with tons of exciting announcements. One of those big revelations was the title of the Doctor Strange sequel, which is called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With Benedict Cumberbatch returning in his titular role, the film with feature another MCU star: Elizabeth Olsen. The actress has appeared as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlett Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame. And now she will soon star in the new Disney+ series, WandaVision, alongside Paul Bettany.

According to the previous panel, WandaVision will tie directly in with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, probably explaining why the new series is both rumored to be set in the 1950s and take place after Endgame. Since it is still unclear how Vision will be back after his untimely death in Infinity War, we can only guess his return will mean something with the multiverse.

Moreover, something huge will finally be unveiled in WandaVision. The name of Scarlet Witch.

As Wanda is known as Scarlet Witch in the comics and to MCU fans, the character is never actually addressed by her own superhero name in the movies. As reporter Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm tweeted:

In order to find out why Wanda is called Scarlet Witch, obviously we are going to have to hear that name uttered, so the real news here is that her hero name will finally get a shout-out. Why she is called Scarlet Witch seems fairly obvious considering she has red hair (in some movies), wears red, and has witch-like powers. However, we certainly shouldn’t be mad if there is a deeper explanation.

WandaVision is slated to hit Disney+ in Spring 2021, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 7, 2021.

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now in the hands of different superheroes other than the big three of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. With two of the three off the board while another in space, it is up to heroes like Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange. With Spider-Man: Far From Home set to premiere next week, we will get to see the first step in Marvel Studios’ plans for the future.

However, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is already making requests. He wants to see the character team up with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in a future project. When asked by CinemaBlend why Dr. Strange is the one Spidey should team up with, Tom Holland provided an interesting response that should excite Marvel fans.

“I am really wanting to do a team-up with Doctor Strange, because we are both New Yorkers and because I just really like the idea of a science guy teaming up with a guy who does magic; it totally contradicts everything he knows,” Tom Holland explained. “And I like the idea that there’s real science that Peter Parker talks about. And then there is Doctor Strange gibberish, where he is like ‘The time rift and the thing and the thing.’ So it is kind of fun.’”

That sounds like a fun team up, especially when it’d come to the promotional period considering how much fun Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland had together on the press circuit.

However, it also seems like Marvel Studios has other plans for these two marquee heroes, as there have been reports of a sequel for Doctor Strange being in the works for over a year now.

Over last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased plans for Doctor Strange 2 while promoting Ant-Man and the Wasp.

“Sometimes, it is where do these characters pop up? [Dr] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange [film], which we’ll do, it’ll be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he is a very big part of Infinity War,” explained Feige. “So it’s just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, while keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and doing different types of things.”

And maybe we will get a glimpse of what the future holds for the MCU when Spider-Man: Far From Home premieres on July 2.

Though it’s unofficial, it has been long thought that Black Widow and The Eternals would be two properties filling the release dates that Marvel Studios currently has locked down for next year. However, an interesting new report claims that the sequel of Doctor Strange could sneak into the November 6th, 2020 date, which most analysts were suggested would go to the Chloe Zhao-directed Eternals.

According to a report from Deadline at CinemaCon, when it comes to the two 2020 release dates, “rumors have been that it is Black Widow standalone film and Doctor Strange 2.” This would be some of the earliest reports of this sequel’s release date, and it is totally possible – especially after considering Benedict Wong was under the assumption that the production would begin filming this year.

It also should be noted that Deadline reports directly contradict the thoughts of other trade publications who previously claimed the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring follow-up would film in 2020 for the 2021 release. Since Marvel Studios has already started casting major roles in The Eternals – with Hollywood A-listed actress Angelina Jolie reportedly set to join the production in a lead role – it is unlikely they would postpone the movie much longer.

Currently, the production house is sitting on three release dates in 2021, including February 12, May 7, and November 5.

Meanwhile, horror maestro Scott Derrickson is reportedly set to return to the director’s chair for Doctor Strange 2.

And while it’s even far too early to know what the film plot will look like, Derrickson himself has hinted that he wants to involve the long-time Strange nemesis Nightmare in the movie in some shape, way, or form.

“Possibly Nightmare, but he is a tricky villain to get right,” wrote Derrickson. “And you cannot tell the story of Doctor Strange w/out eventually dealing w/Clea.”

“[Marvel Studios head] Kevin [Feige] made a very cogent case,” Derrickson continued. “The trouble starting with Nightmare is getting across the idea of the Dream Dimension as another dimension. The film was challenging enough. It is already an exposition-heavy movie. Dormammu made the most sense. And he’s the most present villain in the comics.”

Captain Marvel is now in theaters. Other upcoming MCU films include Avengers: Endgame on April 26 and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 7.

Still, it is one of the most quotable and “memeable” moments from Avengers: Infinity War. Benedict Cumberbatch played as Doctor Strange. Alongside the Avengers, he used the Time Stone to go ahead in time and view 14,000,605 future scenarios in the battle with Thanos. And when Strange “comes back,” and informs the group he’s with on Titan. From there, they win, in only one of the future scenarios he has viewed. We are not Vegas bookies by any means, but something tells us that a 1 out of 14 million chance of winning does not return that great of odds.

But what if he is wrong, somehow?

Yes, just if – what if – there happens to be more than one winning chance? After all, there could have been, indeed, several winning futures, except it would clarify a grim fate for the Master of the Mystic Arts.

We were theorizing that yes, there’re more winning futures. But unfortunately, Doctor Strange is unable to see them because somewhere, somehow, he dies.

Let’s think back to Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange (2016).

The final scene between Strange alongside the Ancient One’s Tilda Swinton at the hospital is one of the biggest pieces of supporting evidence. When the Ancient One’s astral projection leaves her body, Strange follows suit and chases his mentor to a balcony.

There, the Ancient One reveals about her access to the Dark Dimension and the Time Stone. She’s able to go forward in time; however, for any reason, she was never able to look past the moment in time they are currently experiencing. The Ancient One realizes that she has never been able to look past the moment because that is when her life ends, which seemingly makes the character more at peace with her own death.

With the same logic, it is entirely possible more winning futures exist for the Avengers as well as the Guardians. The thing is, Doctor Strange was just unable to see them as he died before the good guys won.
