Recently, Disney has announced the official release dates for James Cameron-directed four Avatar sequels – and they will be arriving later than expected. The release dates were confirmed in a new press release about the upcoming slate of Disney films after the recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox; now Avatar 2 will be arriving on the weekend before Christmas on 2021 – a full year later than the current expected release date of December 18, 2020.
Here is what Disney put out in its official press release.
Now scheduled to land on Pandora December 17, 2021 pic.twitter.com/d21QmCwiHC
— Avatar (@officialavatar) May 7, 2019
For those who are not familiar to these numbers, check out what the Avatar release schedule rounds out to:
- Avatar 2 – December 17, 2021
- Avatar 3 – December 15, 2023
- Avatar 4 – December 19, 2025
- Avatar 5 – December 17, 2027
As for now, the filmmaker James Cameron has already wrapped principal production on both Avatar 2 and 3. These two films seem to be the middle and final chapter of a trilogy featuring Stephen Lang’s villain from the original movie, Colonel Miles Quaritch. While that is just speculation, the late-game addition of some major new cast members after initial filming wrap (namely Sopranos star Edie Falco as “General Ardmore”) suggests that Avatar 4 could begin a new chapter, with a new antagonist. Furthering that assumption has been recent teases that Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel also joins the Avatar franchise, presumably for this next chapter (but again, that is just rumor and speculation).
The biggest question is whether or not fans are still as invested in Pandora as they were during Avatar’s unprecedented success way back in 2009. Disney is now showing confidence in this franchise with the release date schedule reveal – something analysts questioned as the Disney & Fox merger was being negotiated. It is always risky betting against James Cameron, so we will have to wait until 2021 to see for ourselves.
So, are you excited for the return of Avatar?
GOT Star Kit Harington Joins the MCU, Casts as Black Knight in The Eternals
Just a few days ago, a report from Deadline surfaced saying Game of Thrones star Kit Harington would be joining the MCU. Now, it has been officially revealed the actor will be playing Dane Whitman in Marvel’s The Eternals due out next year. His character might be better known to fans as Black Knight, the wielder of Marvel’s iconic Ebony Blade.
The character of Dane Whiteman was first introduced to the Marvel Comics universe in 1967 as the nephew of the villainous Black Knight, who passed the mantle onto Dane and asked him to restore his honor to their legacy. Then Black Knight has joined forces with various superhero teams throughout Marvel Comics history, including the Avengers and the Defenders. Still, it is unclear how Black Knight will fit into The Eternals since he is not an Eternal himself. However, it is no doubt a significant role for Kit Harington to nab coming off the final season of Game of Thrones.
For the uninitiated, Black Knight is another superhero moniker used by more than one character through the vast Marvel history – Dane Whitman just so happens to be the most famous character to pick up the sword. First appearing in The Avengers #47 as himself before becoming Black Knight in The Avengers #48, Whitman’s genius-level intellect with all kinds of gadgetry at his disposal. He is also a master swordsman, and that allows him to put the Ebony Blade – a mystical sword – with ease.
Coincidentally enough, Dane Whitman has also been involved in a romantic relationship with the Eternal Sersi, starring Captain Marvel star Gemma Chan. Her situation is also the first time that a major actress has played two big roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Originally, the famed Ebony Blade was supposed to appear in Doctor Strange, although propmaster Barry Gibbs previously admitted that it was pulled from the final cut from the movie.
“It was [going to be in the film],” Barry Gibbs said when the sold black blade was pointed out. “That’s going to go into a book called the Lexicon of Relics, but the Ebony Blade was taken out of the script. I don’t know why. Again, as things evolved, it was not pertinent to the script. Things just moved on.”
The Eternals is set to arrive on November 6, 2020. Are you excited to see Kit Harington join the MCU?
Keanu Reeves Reportedly In Talks to Star in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals
According to a recent report, it sounds like John Wick could bring his particular set of skills to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though there is a lot of fan art clamoring for Keanu Reeves to join Marvel Studios as the new Wolverine, it is possible that the actor could be taking on an entirely different role altogether.
As fan site MCU Cosmic reports, Keanu Reeves is currently in talks to join the cast of The Eternals from director Chloe Zhao. Keanu Reeves would be joining Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, an Kumail Nanjiani in the upcoming Marvel flick that will continue to expand the cosmic side of the franchise.
Though MCU Cosmic does not reveal what part Keanu Reeves could possibly be playing, they do note that he hasn’t yet signed on and that the talks are still underway. Apparently, Marvel Studios is seeking Keanu Reeves out to join their film.
The Eternals is one of the mysterious projects in the pipeline from Marvel Studios. It’s one of the few confirmed movies we actually know is coming out. Meanwhile, producer Kevin Feige is excited to see it happen, as he explained to Bionic Buzz last year.
“You are reaction about not being familiar with The Eternals is perfect, because most people were not familiar with Guardians [of the Galaxy] and believe it or not, there were people that weren’t familiar with Avengers or Iron Man,” the president of Marvel Studios said. “So as for us, it’s finding great stories whether they’ve heard of them or not and bring them to the big screen in an amazing way as we can.”
During promoting Captain Marvel earlier this year, Kevin Feige also reiterated those points.
“Eternals are one group. We like the idea of introducing an ensemble and doing an ensemble film from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers. And more like Guardians, not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people,” Feige previously told Collider. “You were asking about the ‘60s and ‘70s before. Jack Kirby did an immense and amazing epic with Eternals that spans tens of thousands of years. And that is also something we have not really done, which is why among many other things post-Endgame, we find appealing.”
However, keep in mind that this is the same source that claimed Avengers: Endgame was going to be titled “Annihilation.” and Deadpool would likely show up next in a Disney+ series or the third Spider-Man film. That said, anything is possible. Stay tuned!

Director James Cameron Congratulates The Avengers on Sinking Titanic at the Box Office
Earlier this week, Avengers: Endgame became the second-highest grossing movie in the box office history in less than just 14 days after its initial release. The fifth movie ever to earn more than $2 billion worldwide, Endgame still has a little way to go in order to topple Avatar, but it did take out the rest of the competition. That includes its predecessor Infinity War, domestic behemoth Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and James Cameron’s original record-setter, Titanic. Avengers: Endgame took second place all time after sinking Titanic. And the filmmaker behind this legendary film decided that congratulations were in order.
For the past decade or so, James Cameron held the honor of having helmed both of the top two biggest movies of all time: Titanic and Avatar. That has now changed with the release of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame. While Titanic sits at $2.19 billion, Endgame has already reached $2.27 billion. After the milestone was reached, Cameron took to social media, offering some kind words to Kevin Feige, Anthony and Joe Russo, and the rest of the folks at Marvel.
The director shared an image of the Titanic being sunk by the Avengers logo rather than an iceberg. With it, he shared the following message.
“To Kevin Feige and everybody at Marvel, an iceberg sank the real Titanic. And it took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You have shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, but it is also bigger than ever!”
By the time all is said and done, James Cameron will likely be making another one of these posts congratulating Marvel’s blockbuster. With about $500 million to go, Avengers: Endgame is now projected to beat Avatar and become the biggest film of all time.
James Cameron will obviously try to reach the heights of box-office history again in December 2021, at the first of four planned Avatar sequels will be arriving in theaters.
Avengers: Endgame is now showing.
Netflix Releases Teaser For The New “Lucifer” Season
Now leave it to Lucifer star Tom Ellis to make an ass of himself in a brand new trailer for the series’ upcoming season streaming on Netflix. Oh wait, no, that is not it. Rather, he has made a bit of a stir about his hindquarters, that he and the showrunners have teased are going to get a bit of camera time; and that the show has transitioned from network TV to the streaming service.
Recently, in a teaser video for the upcoming season, rather than spoiling any plot points, Tom Ellis is joined by Lauren German (starring Chloe Decker) and Inbar Lavi, who has been cast as Eve, thanking fans for the support, being directly responsible for saving the cult-favorite series based on this DC/Vertigo comic book character.
In this teaser, Lavi repeatedly “almost” lapses into spoiler territory while Lauren German takes her law enforcement role seriously on the series to play spoiler police. The whole time, Tom Ellis lounges around in a Netflix-branded bathroom and drinks from a Netflix-branded coffee cup, then making quips and looking, and as he does, devastatingly handsome. Besides thanking fans who helped keep the show alive, the teaser also plays to these fans, who by and large love not only the chemistry on-camera between the co-stars but also the playful and devilish attitudes they take off the screen while discussing the show. You can check out the teaser below.
— Netflix US (@netflix) April 5, 2019
“Netflix wanted to have Lucifer because they really love the show that we already had,” series star Tom Ellis told a crowd at last year’s ACE Comic-Con. “So we have been careful. We do not want to change our show too much because that is the show people really liked. But there were certain restrictions that we have when we were on network television that meant maybe we could not do as much as we wanted. So things like my bum now, which I was never allowed to show before. And a lot of people also want to see it. There really may be some bum shots this season. There’ll be multiple bum shots; after a scene, certainly, we shot the other day. I even want to stress. I think one of the reasons why people like our show is because it does not go all the way there. It is about the suggestion. It is about getting away with it, being cheeky and not vulgar. And we are still careful that we are not going to go into vulgarity. Everything is justified.”
The fourth season of Lucifer has yet no official release date, though fans have always assumed that it was likely the series would land in the second half of this year, with ten new episodes. So, are you excited for more Lucifer? Let us know in the comments!
Marvel’s “The Eternals:” Angelina Jolie Reportedly Confirmed to Play Sersi
Even as fans eagerly await the Avengers: Endgame release, Marvel Studios is quietly organizing itself for the imminent rollout of “Phase IV” of the MCU, which will begin this summer with Spider-Man: Far From Home. Another project on the upcoming MCU slate that has appeared out of left field is The Eternals, a film about a secret race of superpowered beings that created by the Celestials to have exceptionally long lives.
The Eternals has been dropping some casting news as well as character hints for the last few weeks, with the biggest announcement that Angelina Jolie will be starring in the film. There previously has been a lot of speculation about who Jolie’s mystery MCU character would turn out to be. And now it seems that we have confirmation that Angelina Jolie is indeed playing the role of Sersi!
The Hollywood Reporter dropped this exclusive news that the Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani is joining The Eternals, and even buried in that report was this little mention:
“Angelina Jolie is understood to be playing the character named Sersi, a more outgoing Eternal who hasn’t been afraid to movie amongst humankind.”
For those unfamiliar, Sersi is an Eternal of the 4th generation (that confusing lineage is a whole other story). She was born in Olympia, Greece, in the ancient world of Earth after the fall of Lemuria and Atlantis. She’s distinct from her fellow Eternals since she actually enjoys being around humanity. Eventually, Sersi leaves the hidden city of The Eternals and goes to live amongst mankind.
In the comics, Marvel has since used Sersi’s virtually-immortal lifetime as a vehicle for having the character be tied to key points in history, such as the inspiration for the part of Homer’s “The Odyssey;” sealing the evil demons trapped in the Pandora’s Box; key incidents in Rome, Camelot and other such historical periods tied to both human development and Marvel’s superheroes. In the modern age, Sersi has joined The Avengers. And she eventually fell in love with Dane Whitman, the Black Knight. She’d also go through a major period where her mind and powers were dangerously unstable, making her a threat to the team as much as an asset. Ultimately she would kill herself along with rest of the Eternals, upon learning from the arrival of the Dark Celestials that The Eternals weren’t created to be humanity’s protectors, but instead the Celestials tool for harvesting humanity’s genetic potential.
In addition to the enhanced strength, flight, reflexes, intelligence, and durability of an Eternal, Sersi has cultivated her power of transmutation, able to rearrange the molecular structures better than any other Eternal before her. She has often masked this power as sorcery or illusion casting (depending on the era), but her power is virtually limitless.
Angelina Jolie as Sersi, a powerful woman who is wise from centuries of lifetimes lived amongst humanity sound pretty spot-on for the actress. No doubt die-hard Marvel fans are curious to see if Jolie would also some with the Sersi’s signature talent for dance, perfect over centuries of practice.
Avengers: Infinity War is available on Netflix while Captain Marvel is in theaters now. Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5.
“The Eternals:” Angelina Jolie Reportedly in Talks to Star in the Marvel Film
The Eternals is aiming to be one of the most interesting projects going into Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the introduction of the cosmic group will open up the fictional world in some interesting ways. And if a new report is any indication, a pretty big A-lister, Angelina Jolie, could be joining the project.
According to THR, Angelina Jolie is now in talks to make her debut in the upcoming Marvel Studios film, The Eternals. However, it’s unclear exactly what role Jolie would be playing, but this would make her the first cast member officially to join the film.
Angelina Jolie is a pretty notable name within the entertainment world, with her filmography including Girl, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Interrupted, and Maleficent. And this is just the latest example of her being tied to the world of Marvel, with rumors circling back in 2015 that she was being eyed to direct Captain Marvel.
In 1976, Jack Kirby created the Eternals after he returned to Marvel Comics following a stint with DC Comics.
While at DC Comics, Jack Kirby created the New Gods. However, the comics were canceled before Kirby could resolve all of the plots he had in place. The Eternals was thematically similar to the New Gods but failed to find its audience, and it was canceled before Kirby could finish his story. Though the group might not be as well-known amongst casual Marvel Comics fans, these tied to the MCU have argued that that is exactly why they are perfect for the film world.
“Your reaction about not being so familiar with the Eternals is perfect because most people were not familiar with Guardians [of the Galaxy]. Believe it or not, some people weren’t familiar with Avengers or Iron Man,” Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said during last year’s interview. “So for us, it is finding great stories whether people have heard of them or not, and it can bring them to the big screen in as an amazing way as we can.”
Chloe Zhao will direct The Eternals, with production expected to begin later this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the part of this film will revolve around the relationship between Ikaris, a man who is fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.
So, what do you think of Angelina Jolie possibly starring in The Eternals?
Currently, Captain Marvel is in theaters. The blockbuster will be followed by Avengers: Endgame on April 26, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5.
