Today, Marvel is running out a variety of new series announcements, and one of the most promising books in this lineup is an all-new Deadpool series. While the character continues to be a fan favorite, this time around he is packing quite the creative team. That includes writer Kelly Thompson (Captain Marvel, West Coast Avengers) and artist Chris Bachalo (Uncanny X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man) along for the ride that promises to be a very entertaining and memorable adventure.

Marvel also gave fans a look at the cover to Deadpool #1 alongside the new team, which features the lovable Merc with a Mouth with a full crown while sitting on his mighty throne. The monster beneath him probably is not a fan of carrying the throne mind you. Odds are Deadpool’s reign as the King of the Monsters will encounter some speedbumps along the way.

The premise of this series has Wade Wilson attempting to move the monster to a new habitat, as they have recently set up shop in Staten Island. We are also not sure how Deadpool ends up charming enough people to let him become the king. However, knowing Deadpool, he probably is not even a King and just bought the crown at a gas station. That is a very Wade Wilson move right there, right?

Now that the historic deal between the Walt Disney Company and 20th Century Fox is in the books, fans are eager to see how Fox’s catalog of characters and IP will further evolve. One of the most highly-anticipated parts of that is Fox’s Marvel characters. And it sounds like they are one step closer to being folded into the MCU. During Disney’s quarterly earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger referred to the X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four as “part of Marvel Studios,” though he didn’t hint how they would be introduced.

While discussing 20th Century Fox's place at Disney, Bob Iger name-checks X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic 4 as "part of Marvel Studios," but he does not mention any plans of how those properties will be integrated in the MCU.

To an extent, diehard Marvel fans have been assuming as much for several months now, ever since the Disney/Fox merger was officially done. Certainly, there is still the nature of when those characters will be introduced. While Fox’s characters weren’t part of Marvel’s Phase 4 slate that was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last month, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige did hint they had plans in the works for mutants and the Fantastic Four.

“The truth is, I am excited for all of [the characters],” Kevin Feige said in an interview with Variety earlier this year. “And it is not just the marquee names you know. There’re hundreds of names on those documents and agreements. The fact that Marvel is now as close as we may ever get to having access to all of the character. It is something I have been dreaming about for my almost 20 years at Marvel. And it is very exciting.”

“It will be fascinating to see what Kevin Feige does with the properties he is getting from the Disney/Fox merger with X-Men and Fantastic Four now,” Avengers: Endgame co-writer Christopher Markus previously told LA Times. “And to see what the MCU version of these things is, because I very much doubt that it will be something that resembles what you have seen before. So that’ll be very exciting.”

If Rob Liefeld actually gets his way, Deadpool 3 is a guaranteed movie from Marvel Studios. Not just that, but it would happen sooner rather than later.

Recently, from an impromptu Q&A session with fans, the comic artist and writer took to Twitter, responding to one die-hard fan seemingly promising a Deadpool threequel.

“It will totally happen!!” Liefeld tweeted. “Soon!”

Meanwhile, the future of the Ryan Reynolds-starring franchise has been in flux since The Walt Disney Company purchased Fox, allowing the Deadpool live-action film and television rights to all X-Men characters to revert back to Marvel Studios. Even though Disney chief Bob Iger and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige have both said they would entertain R-rated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has yet to be seen how – or when – an adult-oriented movie will be implemented.

However, this is not the first time Rob Liefeld has expressed his strong opinion on the matter, previously promising Deadpool 3 would happen.

“Nothing like deadlines to clear your head,” Rob Liefeld wrote earlier this year. “Let me be clear that Deadpool 3 will happen, some form, some fashion. That is not a concern to me. Disney paid $60 billion for Fox and Deadpool is the most valuable asset in today’s market. It makes more than X-Men films.”

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds himself spoke with EW in the lead-up to Deadpool 2, admitting he was not aware of any of Marvel’s plans for the property after that merger.

“I really genuinely don’t know anything about it,” the actor admitted. “I read that [Disney CEO and chairman] Bob Iger felt that there is plenty of room in the universe to have a rated-R character like Deadpool. This is completely conjectured on my part, but I would not imagine that Disney bought Fox to dismantle it or something like that. I think Disney bought Fox so it could have that in its arsenal.”

Just keep in mind, it remains unclear if Marvel Studios is going to have Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as the Merc with a Mouth. That said, Kevin Feige previously touted that if Deadpool is working and not broken, they had no plans on trying to fix it.

So, how do you think Marvel Studios will end up introducing Deadpool to the MCU?

Recently, a Marvel insider claims Sony Pictures is trying to include Tom Hardy as Venom in the third Marvel Studios-produced Spider-Man film, disputing a report from days ago that claimed Disney-owned Marvel was considering introducing Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the sequel of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

There are no plans to add Deadpool in an MCU Spider-Man 3, but Sony desperately wants Tom Hardy's Venom in this movie. Deadpool had his own movies but never showed up in the main X-Men films, it will be the same for the MCU.

Twitter account @RogerWardell, who previously leaked major spoilers for Avengers: Endgame that ultimately turned out to be legitimate months later, says there is “no plan” for Deadpool in Spider-Man 3 but Sony instead “desperately” wants Tom Hardy’s Venom opposite Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. He further claims Disney-owned Marvel Studios will keep the Deadpool franchise, acquired as part of Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s entertainment assets in March that worth $71.3 billion, running parallel to its other properties.

The May 24 rumor from MCU Cosmic also claimed that Marvel was working over multiple options to introduce the Merc with a Mouth. It could be a third Ryan Reynolds-led solo movie, a live-action series on Disney+, or involvement in the Spider-Man 3, which pairs Tom Holland’s wall-crawler with veteran super-spy Nick Fury (star Samuel L. Jackson). Iron Man (star Robert Downey Jr.) who played supported in its predecessor, 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Sony controls Spidey live-action screen rights and allows the character to operate in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, where this teenage superhero was knighted as a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War before helping save the universe in the latest Endgame.

Meanwhile, Venom launched Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, an unconnected and apparently Spidey-less continuity.

Amy Pascal, the producer on both Venom and the rebooted Spider-Man franchise, once said the Sony-produced movies would act as tie-ins for the MCU. She told FilmStarts back in June 2017 the films “will now take place in the world that we’re creating for Peter Parker.”

“They will be adjuncts to it. They may be different locations. But it’ll still all be in the same world,” said Pascal. “They’ll be connected to each other as well.”

However, though she tried, perhaps mistakenly, to characterize the SUMC as an offshoot of the MCU, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige later told AlloCine there is “no plan” for Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, calling the Tom Hardy movie “a Sony project.”

Amy Pascal later clarified her comments during the Spider-Man: Homecoming press tour, explaining “all these characters are part of the Marvel comic book universe.”

“In that universe, they’re all related to each other. Kevin [Feige] makes characters in the MCU,” she said. “These characters are separated, except for Spidey, who belongs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is why he is there.”

When asked if that rules out a future Spidey and Venom crossover, Kevin Feige replied, “We never say never.” He added a merger between the two universes was unlikely to happen “any time soon.”

However, Venom producer Matt Tolmach believes such a crossover will come “at some point.”

“The obvious thing that we’re all excited to do is have Venom face off against Spider-Man at some point. We knew we could not use Spider-Man in this movie or did not want to use him in this movie,” Tolmach previously told LRM. “But we were really excited about the potential for Spider-Man and Venom at some point meeting up in the future.”

In the meantime, the upcoming Far From Home will seemingly delve deeper into the concept of the Multiverse, potentially allowing for a future Spidey-Venom crossover.

“We also had to look at it in terms of the scope of what happened at the end of Endgame. Seeing all these crazy things that they did and all the questions that raise,” director Jon Watts told Fandango.

“So definitely we are trying to answer one of the big ones – alternate timelines. Many possibilities opened up at the end of Endgame, and Peter Parker is one of the few people on the ground dealing with them.”

When asked how Far From Home differs from Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – that saw multiple Spidey people crossover into one shared reality – Jon Watts replied, “I would not dare [explain]. I will let Nick Fury do that.”

Spider-Man: Far From Home opens July 2. As for Venom 2, Sony has dated the film for October 2, 2020.

One of the most pressing questions for Marvel Studios moving forward is how to integrate the wildly successful Deadpool franchise into the film universe. Now that the ink has dried on the contracts and the Walt Disney Company has fully acquired 20th Century Fox. And Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has a dilemma on his hands when it comes to incorporating Ryan Reynolds’ popular film series into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A new report from MCU Cosmic indicates that Kevin Feige and his round table are considering numerous options for the best way to move forward, hopefully capitalizing on the goodwill Ryan Reynolds has earned from the success of Deadpool and Deadpool 2, as well as the PG-13 rated version released over the holidays.

According to the fan site, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are looking at three possible paths. And at least, one of them is to bring the foul-mouthed Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those options include going forward with Deadpool 3, or introducing the character in a Disney+ series (which will likely soften the hard edges that are inherent to Deadpool’s current incarnation), or possibly even making him a big part of their third Spider-Man film, which would give Sony Pictures a cut of that pie.

Still, none of that has been confirmed. A Disney+ series seems unlikely, considering they are sticking to family friendly content and would likely not allow Ryan Reynolds to be as edgy as he’s in the first two movies (not to mention, paying the superstar salary for a streaming service show or run the risk of recasting the character outright). This also comes from the same site that says Disney+ will never revive the Netflix Marvel shows because of their mature nature.

One of the other options, of including Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home, seems even less likely because of one core reason: Disney will not see any of those profits. Sony distributes the Spider-Man movies and makes all of the money off of their massive success, but Marvel and Disney benefit from the increased exposure and subsequent merchandise sales. It is hard to believe that they would even consider introducing one of their most popular characters in such a movie they will not even make money off of at the box office.

At this point, all of these are just rumors, but rest assured that Marvel Studios does have plans for the character going forward. Maybe they will call the movie Deadpool: Annihilation…

Marvel held the official press day for upcoming Avengers: Endgame, and during the event, we got to hear from directors Russo Brothers about the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe – especially where Fox’s Marvel characters are concerned. While much of the current X-Men cast is expected to be rebooted and recast during the MCU transition, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is likely sticking around. And he will have to find his place in a whole new playing field of Marvel characters.

As the Russos previously told Fox 5 DC, it is the character of Deadpool (more so than Ryan Reynolds) that will be a big chance for the flow and tone of the MCU as we knew it.

“He breaks the fourth wall, so it changes tones,” Joe says. “Is he not allowed to break the 4th wall? Would that damage the character?”

We’d literally lock ourselves in a room for two months and discuss the question before we could arrive at an answer,” Anthony Russo adds.

While implementing the Fox and Marvel characters into the MCU, those kinds of questions are a major part of the process that Marvel Studios will have to go through. On the other hand, there are many things that moviegoers have come to love and identify within the X-Men franchise (like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool). However, it is a safe bet to say the overwhelming majority of Marvel fans are now more excited about the prospect of having X-Men integrated into the MCU. And that is indisputably true for the Fantastic Four franchise, which languished under Fox all the way up until the franchise-killing atrocity was that was the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot.

It has already been floated by Disney executives that a character like Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) could get a split focus treatment, wherein a toned-down version of this character appears in the MCU-brand films alongside PG-13 characters like X-Men or The Avengers. Meanwhile, the hard-R version of the Deadpool character who has carved out his own standalone movie franchise would be allowed to continue, with these Deadpool films being released under the 20th Century Fox banner, keeping the “Disney” brand clean – which seems to be a pretty good way to split the difference.

As for the fourth wall question that Joe and Anthony Russo address: A lot of Marvel fans have already said it would be a great introductory storyline to have the fourth-wall-breaking power of Deadpool himself make him one of the only MCU characters to remember the vast universe shifts of the Thanos’ Snap as well as Fox and Marvel Universe ending – with no one around to believe him, of course.

Avengers: Infinity War is already available on Netflix. Captain Marvel is now showing in theaters. Avengers: Endgame arrives on April 26, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 7.

With the Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox and other entertainment assets eventually being finalized, the Marvel family now got a little bit bigger.

Recently, Avengers: Endgame star Chris Hemsworth did the decent thing by welcoming the newcomer, making Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds’ addition feel a bit warm.

Chris Hemsworth posted to social media, sharing a new piece of fan art that showcases Deadpool in the God of Thunder’s classic helmet and a much tiner version of Mjolnir. We are expecting to see this be canon in the Avengers: Endgame post-credits stinger.

The star loves to have fun with his fellow actors on social media, and we all know about Ryan Reynolds’ antics on the site. We anxiously await the response from Deadpool star.

Knowing that Deadpool could make his potential way to join the MCU should be exciting for fans, and it opens up possibilities for more mature-themed movies and series coming to fruition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it seems that the franchise will likely remain under the 20th Century Fox banner.

Disney Chairman Bob Iger previously clarified at a shareholders meeting that the Deadpool 3 would go on. And according to a new report from THR, the franchise would be the only X-Men series to continue without being rebooted.

Last year, Bob Iger also stated that the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters would be transferred under the banner of Marvel Studios, giving Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige access to fan-favorites that have yet to appear in the MCU.

“I think it only makes sense,” Bob Iger told The Hollywood Reporter. “I want to be careful because of what has been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. And it only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There should not be two Marvels.”

We will see if Deadpool and Thor become the new power couple of the MCU in years to come. However, until then, the God of Thunder will return in Avengers: Endgame premiering in theaters on April 26.

The deal between Disney and Fox is now official, and there are many ramifications from it. One of that has to do with returning of rights to characters previously licensed out to other companies, most notably including Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four characters from Marvel. With the new merger now in place, and while Spider-Man still calls Sony home, two out of the three franchises will be returning under Marvel’s sole umbrella. However, according to a recent report, it seems that Marvel does not really have plans to carry on what Fox was doing. And that is, with one big foul-mouthed exception, and his name is Deadpool.

At present, there are a few more X-Men films already on the way from Fox, and they will be seen through under Disney’s umbrella. These movies include X-Men: Dark Phoenix and the New Mutants. But after those responsibilities are done, we shouldn’t expect any more from those franchises for a bit. According to a report from THR, Disney will only be moving over Fox’s Deadpool as a permanent resident, coinciding with earlier statements from Disney CEO Bob Iger that an R-rated Deadpool movie would still be a part of the studio.

Meanwhile, everything else though it seems is being wiped clean, Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix will likely be the last X-Men movie from this era. As for New Mutants, currently according to a report, it’s being mulled over, with possibly avoiding theaters at all and even just being released on the upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

Though the Fox-led X-Men films have done well at the box office, there has always been a want for them returning to Marvel after the MCU took off. Many have been wondering what a Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the X-Men could look like. And while probably that won’t include any Logan-typed movies, it means the Mutants would get the same treatment that other Marvel heroes have received at the studio. That can only be a good thing.

Wolverine, Imagine Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, and the rest will be given the same faithful adaptations that Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, and the rest of the Avengers have received. It sounds great, right? That could actually happen now, though we are all glad that Deadpool, at least for the time being, is staying just the same as we remember him.

So, are you bummed Marvel is starting over with the X-Men franchise?

While X-Force may be dead, the creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld still expects the Ryan Reynolds-led standalone franchise to continue in “some form, some fashion.”

According to a report from Variety, Disney purchased $71.3 billion to acquire X-Verse producers 21st Century Fox in a deal that will likely close in March of this year.

Previously, Rob Liefeld commentated that deal meant X-Force – writer/director Drew Goddard’s planned offshoot of Deadpool 2, reteaming Ryan Reynolds with franchise newcomers Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz as a much more violent band of black ops X-Men – was likely dead in the water, calling the potential $800 million-plus grosser a “victim of the merger.”

However, the star/co-writer/producer Ryan Reynolds was initially unsure of a Deadpool 3 in the wake of the last summer’s sequel.

As of January, a third movie is in the works under scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who reportedly will be taking the franchise “in a completely different direction.”

In May, when the spinoff looked more definite, Ryan Reynolds said the standalone Deadpool franchise probably moved forward under the X-Force branding as an ensemble.

“I do not know that there’d be a Deadpool 3. Really don’t,” he said at the time.

“I feel like that character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you have to take everything away from him. And I do not think that you can keep doing that. But I do see him as being part of X-Force, obviously. I’d love to see him in a team-up sort of thing, like mano a mano or a great female character from X-Men universe. I just think if you are going to do another Deadpool solo film, you have got to really, like, get the budget down to nothing and swing for the fences, then break all kinds of its weird barriers, and do stuff that no one else can do.”

Meanwhile, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that current Fox-controlled properties Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool would fall under the purview of Kevin Feige as well as his Marvel Studios banner when the acquisition is completed.

Even though Kevin Feige is firm the studio has yet to put any plans with these characters into motion – such moves are legally prohibited until Disney reclaims the screen rights from Fox – Marvel expectedly retains Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, even if the franchise is rebooted when integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, home to the Avengers and Black Panther franchises.
