All the DC Comics Movies Scheduled for Releases in the Next Two Years

It seems that DC was playing second fiddle to Marvel on the feature movie side while dominating the TV airwaves. However, it doesn’t mean that there is not plenty to be excited about if you’re a fan of DC Extended Universe.

Throughout the next two calendar years, DC will be releasing not just more TV shows that fans can even count. But at present, there are at least four live-action feature movies as well as four animated films already in the works.

The DC Extended Universe animated features, which generally come out a few times a year, are only scheduled through 2019. However, that’s enough to account for four movies while DC’s live-action offerings will continue to be pretty eccentric on the heels of Aquaman’s massive success, with some less-recognizable brands being represented on the big screen. And even those who are familiar to casual fans will be spun in a different way.

So, what is on the calendar for DC & Warner Bros.? Yeah, we have got you covered!

Coming up about at the end of this month is the Reign of the Supermen. It will be available on VOD platforms, the DC Universe app, DVD, and Blu-ray.

The film is the second in a two-part animated mega-story which began with last year’s The Death of Superman. And it deals with not only the reactions of the world to the loss of the Man of Steel after his fatal battle with Doomsday but also the arrival of four new “Supermen” who are all vying to take on his place.

Reign of the Superman is based on the best-selling comics story from 1993. It’ll also get a limited theatrical release and bicoastal premiere in New York and Los Angeles as well.

Director: David F. Sandberg
Stars: Zachary Levi (as Shazam), Mark Strong (Dr. Thaddeus Sivana), Djimon Hounsou (The Wizard), Asher Angel (Billy Batson), Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddy Freeman), Grace Fulton (Mary Bromfield), Adam Brody, Ross Butler, and Michelle Borth.

Here is the official synopsis for Shazam!.

“We all have a superhero inside us. And it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. As for Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one-word “SHAZAM!”, the streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Superhero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still, a kid at heart – inside a ripped, godlike body – Shazam revels in his adult version by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: having fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have an X-ray version? Can he shoot lighting out of his hands? Can he skip his social study tests? Shazam sets out to test the limit of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he will need to master these powers quickly to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Shazam! lands in theaters on April 5, 2019.

The Justice League will be facing a group of supervillains with the power to rival even the world’s superheroes in Justice League vs. the Fatal Five, a DC Universe Original Movie releasing in the spring of 2019.

During an announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, the animated film will pit the Justice League again the Fatal Five, a group of supervillains more closely associated with the Legion of Super-Heroes.

The Fatal Five have appeared in some episodes of Justice League Unlimited and the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series. And with the Legion missing from DC Comics’ publishing line, the villainous fivesome have not been seen in some time and the exception of Emerald Empress that was featured in the recent Justice League vs. Suicide Squad event series.

In 1966, the Fatal Five was created by Jim Shooter and first appeared in Adventure Comics #352. The original members are:
– Tharok, the small-time crook turned super-genius thanks to cybernetic implants installed after a robbery job literally blows up in his face.
– The Emerald Empress, wielding the immense power of the Emerald Eye of Ekron.
– Validus, one of the twin children of two founding members of the Legion of Super-Heros, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, whom Darkseid kidnapped, then sent back in time and transformed into a monstrous body with a near-mindlessness to be easily controlled by Emerald Empress mind-influencing abilities.
– Mano, having an anti-matter touch and being considered one of the greatest murderers of the galaxy.
– The Persuader, the one who wields an atomic ax capable of cutting through anything.

DC Comics fans may be wondering about Justice League vs. The Fatal Five could someway introduce the Legion of Superheroes into the continuity of the DC Universe Original Movies. Although the team was not mentioned in the announcement, fans will need to wait and see for now.

The Justice League vs. the Fatal Five is one of four new DC Universe Original Movies that is scheduled for release in 2019. The film will begin with the Reign of the Supermen. Each of these movies will simultaneously be released on the DC Universe app.

In the release pattern for DC Universe original animated films holds, Batman: Hush will probably be out in either July or August, though the movie is technically not dated at this stage.

While many feature films are “undated” only because they’re nowhere near completion yet, therefore, they do not make this list even if they’re originally supposed to come in the next couple of years. The DC Universe animated films are kind of a different animal. They’ve been produced with such consistency that there’s no reason to believe they’ll miss their target time. And their releasing dates are routinely kept under wraps until the last minute.

Even so, Batman: Hush will adapt the fan-favorite storyline by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, about one of Bruce Wayne’s friends in his childhood who becomes a supervillain obsessed with him.

You can read the official synopsis for DC’s collected edition of the comics below, which has become one of the most evergreen sellers in current years.

“The epic crime thriller which rejuvenated The Caped Crusader is now available in one place as a trade paperback! In the story of murder, mystery, and romance, Batman will set out on a simple mission and discover the identity of the mysterious villain wreaking havoc in his own life a.k.a Hush. But then Batman ends up facing possibly the most intense case of his life as secrets from the past flood into the present, and the most notorious villain ever to haunt the Gotham City’s street attack simultaneously! Guest-starring The Dark Knight’s greatest allies and enemies, the collection will feature BATMAN #608-619 as well as the six-page segment from Wizard #0 and a two-page origin story that first appeared at From the best-selling writer Jeph Loeb (SUPERMAN/BATMAN, TV’S Heroes) and the superstar artist Jim Lee (SUPERMAN, X-Men) comes the long-awaited collection!

With the pushback of Wonder Woman to 2020, the next big theatrical release for DC after recent Aquaman and upcoming Shazam! will be Joker, a movie featuring the roots of Batman’s arch nemesis.

The film, made inexpensively under the lens of director Todd Phillips (of The Hangover) and featuring Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, is just a grimy, the ‘80s-set origin story that has drawn comparisons to Taxi Driver – a movie directed by Joker producer Martin Scorcese.

While some people quickly called Joker a superhero film, Phoenix stressed caution and said it’s anything but.

“I would not classify this as like any genre,” Joaquin Phoenix said in a recent interview with Collider. “I would not say it is a superhero movie, or a studio movie or something. It feels unique. So I think more than anything, and probably the most important thing is Todd seems very and giving and very passionate about it. So that’s exciting. I think, underneath the excitement of those films, and the size of them, there’re incredible characters that are dealing with real life struggles. And sometimes that’s uncovered and exposed. Sometimes it is not. So I always felt like there were these characters in comics that were really interesting and deserve the opportunity to kind of study. And I think that is what Todd sees appealing for this idea.”

Meanwhile, some people also have questioned the need for a Joker spinoff movie or even the reasons why Joaquin Phoenix would agree to fulfill such a role. However, the actor is simply following in the footsteps of legends such as Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Hamill.

“I take a lot of time and the consideration when making decisions and what I am gonna work on, always.” The star added. “So, in some way, the process, which is obviously reading a script and meeting a filmmaker, then continuing to have discussions and meetings with Todd [Phillips]. I think he is very impressive. He seems to have an interesting understanding of the world and what he is trying to say. So there is something very appealing about it and working with him on this particular project. It feels unique. It’s its own world in some ways. And maybe, mostly, it scared the f*cking sh*t out of me. It might be the thing that scares you the most.”

Joker will hit theaters on October 4, 2019.

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, an original story that features Diana Prince in a leading role. While the film was announced at the same time as Hush and Fatal Five, it may end up pushed to 2020.

We have to stress “may” here. There’s nothing official to suggest that yet.

First of all, the DC Universe animated films have a long tradition of not announcing release dates until the previous movie has already hit the theaters. So it’d be at least this spring before we got a glimpse at a release date for Hush or Bloodlines.

Though, beyond that, Warner Bros. likely is releasing a second Wonder Woman animated film to tie in with the premiere of Wonder Woman 1984. So it’s possible that moving the release date of WW84 to 2020 could result in this film getting a 2020 date, as well.

This would also make sense, as the DC Universe animated features have been coming out three times a year. Once in January (in this case, that would be Reign of the Supermen), once in March (a possible date for Justice League vs. the Fatal Five), and the other time is in this summer, either July or August (Batman: Hush). Pushing the film back to 2020 would keep that pattern in place as well as giving it a more organic tie to the sequel of Wonder Woman.

Little is known yet about the long wait for Birds of Prey movie (officially titled Birds of Prey (& the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)). But, a report from Revenge of the Fans has revealed some general plot points for the upcoming DC Films venture, which will see Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), with Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), alongside Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), and Cassandra Cain teaming up against villainous Black Mask.

Warning: potential spoilers for Birds of Prey below!

According to the report, each of the movie’s all-female heroes will be in their own places at the beginning of the film, which is a combination of new and established DC Comics lore. From there, Canary is a singer who fights crime at night, while Huntress will become a former killer employed by Black Mask. Then Huntress decides to hunt the villain down after learning that he did kill her family. And the pair’s crime-fighting body count will put them in the crosshairs of Renee, and Harley will enter the team while trying to move on from her relationship with the Joker.

Meanwhile, Cassandra will apparently become the catalyst that will bring the group together, after Black Mask kidnaps her to become his next assassin. The report also compares Cassandra’s role to that of X-23’s in Logan, with her speaking very little dialogue.

As the report says, Birds of Prey will find a way to rescue Cassandra before the movie’s third act, which will see the team all working together to fight Black Mask. It also alleges that a potential “epic cameo” is rumored to appear in the film, even though there is no telling exactly who that could be.

Cathy Yan is set to direct Birds of Prey, with a script from Bumblebee’s Christina Hodson. The film is expected to get an R-rated entry into the DCEU pantheon.

Birds of Prey (& the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) premieres on February 7, 2020.

Patty Jenkins returns to helm the sequel for Wonder Woman, by far DC’s biggest critical hit and one that’s generally beloved by the fandom in a way few other movies have been since The Dark Knight.

Still, little is known about the specifics of the plot. Though there’re widespread reports that it’ll deal with the Cold War where its settings in the mid-‘80s, makes sense.

Wonder Woman 1984 follows Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince in a new kind of adventure, which will pit her against Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah (stars Kristen Wiig). Meanwhile, Chris Pine will also reprise his role as the previously-dead Steve Trevor, with Pedro Pascal rumored to be playing Maxwell Lord.

“It is not a sequel. It’s its own story,” Gadot teased during the film’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. “It is own chapter, a brand new movie. The bar is so high, but our aspirations are even higher. So, we just give everything that we have. And we hope what we bring you guys will love.”

“I’ve never wanted to do more of everything for the wrong reason. And I was very thoughtful of that while working on the second one,” Jenkins added. “I do not even want to go that place in my head, like how do you keep it going, etc. It is not more of anything though it’s evocative of what made it great the first time.”

And either way, it seems like WW84 will be giving fans even more of the inspiring and powerful hero that fans saw in the first movie.

“The thing I love most about Wonder Woman is that I feel she is us more than other superheroes,” Jenkins expressed. “People find themselves in the Wonder Woman and the Wonder Woman in us. She makes each of us believe in the Wonder Woman in us.”

The film will premiere on June 5, 2020.

Fans Are Freaking Out Over Jason Momoa Shaving Off His Iconic Beard

Jason Momoa is beloved by fans for a variety of reasons, including his take on Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and bringing Arthur Curry to life in Aquaman, just for being a delightful human being. There are also a lot of fans admiring his trademark beard, but now they had to say goodbye to that look after Jason Momoa made a big life change. He decided to shave off the beard that he has had for seven years.

The thing is, Jason Momoa did it for a good cause. The actor did it in order to raise awareness about aluminum, and how cans are better for the planet than plastic. So most of the internet is doing okay with it even though some are still trying to deal with the loss, and taking to social media to share their reactions and responses.

“Goodbye DROGO, AQUAMAN, DECLAN, BABA! I am shaving this beast off. It is time to make a change. It’s a change for the better for my kids, your kids, and the world. Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. And let’s clean up the oceans and land. Join me on this journey. Let’s make a switch to INFINITELY RECYCLABLE aluminum. Water in cans, NOT plastic,” Momoa writes on his YouTube channel.

Watch the full video below.

In the video, Jason Momoa is seen shaving off his beard while explaining the benefits of using aluminum cans.

“I think 2012 is the last time that I shaved,” he begins. “Good-bye-bye, Drogo! Goodbye-bye, Arthur Curry!”

“Most importantly, I just wanna do this to bring awareness,” Momoa explains. “The plastics are killing our planet. And I think I have a solution. I do not wanna bitch about it. There is only one thing that can really help our planet and save the planet. As long as we recycle.”

“About 75% of all aluminum that has ever been used is still in circulation today. And it is 100%t recyclable. So you drink the can, in about 60 days, it will be back. 100% infinitely recyclable,” he adds.

The actor continues to explain that he hates to see plastic water bottles, and it is his mission to bring more people into the world of aluminum.

“I am on a quest. My journey,” he says. “I got something new that I wanna show you. Still alkaline sparkling spring water,” Momoa says before taking a sip. “Still water, but I feel good about it. So I am gonna recycle this and know that we also can recycle it. It can be a can in 60 days. The rest of its life.”

“Please, please. There is a change coming. It is aluminum. Gotta get rid of these plastic water bottles. Aquaman is trying to do the best as he can. My kids, for your kids, and for the world,” he concludes.

Thank you for doing your part, Jason!

And now you can check out some of the reactions over the internet below!

The Teaser Trailer of “Joker” May Have Revealed First Look at Young Batman

Joaquin Phoenix has made quite an impression in the first trailer for Joker film, which was directed by Todd Phillips. And there was plenty of other details to pick up on as well. The teaser trailer gave us several first looks at Joker’s world of characters, including Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz), Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro), Thomas Wayne (Brett Cullen) and Penny Fleck (Frances Conroy). In fact, that may not have been the only Wayne snuck into this trailer. And yes, it’s exactly the Wayne you are thinking of.

As we can see later in the trailer, a young boy is standing face to face with Arthur Fleck. The boy is seen on the house side of a large gate, giving the impression that there is a large distance between the gate and the building behind. That would also make sense if this were Wayne Manor, and the boy is well dressed as well.

Fleck then puts his hands through the bars, using his thumbs to make the boy smile. Especially since this takes place after the video we saw of Thomas Wayne criticizing the masked man who committed a crime, we are betting this is a part of Fleck’s reconnaissance of Thomas Wayne’s house and a creepy way when getting close to him without committing a crime actually.

All that evidence points to this being the young Bruce Wayne, and you can see the sequence in question in that image.

Now, this movie doesn’t take place within the continuity of other DC films. But this is more of a standalone take on the Joker, so unless there is a sequel to this particular movie, you will not see a bunch of ties to other DCEU films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, Justice League, or Wonder Woman. Still, it appears that they’re going to provide plenty of cool nods to the source material. And we are all for that.

Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix (Arthur Fleck/Joker), Zazie Beetz (Sophie Dumond), Brett Cullen (Thomas Wayne), Robert De Niro (Murray Franklin), Frances Conroy (Penny Fleck), Douglas Hodge (Alfred Pennyworth), Marc Maron (Ted Marco), Josh Pais (Hoyt Vaughn), Bryan Callen, Bryan Tyree Henry, Shea Whigham, and Glen Fleshler.

Here is the official description of Joker.

“Drama. Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis; it is an original, standalone story that is not seen on the big screen before. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (star Joaquin Phoenix), a man who is disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Joker is slated to hit theaters on October 4th.

Netflix Releases Teaser For The New “Lucifer” Season

Now leave it to Lucifer star Tom Ellis to make an ass of himself in a brand new trailer for the series’ upcoming season streaming on Netflix. Oh wait, no, that is not it. Rather, he has made a bit of a stir about his hindquarters, that he and the showrunners have teased are going to get a bit of camera time; and that the show has transitioned from network TV to the streaming service.

Recently, in a teaser video for the upcoming season, rather than spoiling any plot points, Tom Ellis is joined by Lauren German (starring Chloe Decker) and Inbar Lavi, who has been cast as Eve, thanking fans for the support, being directly responsible for saving the cult-favorite series based on this DC/Vertigo comic book character.

In this teaser, Lavi repeatedly “almost” lapses into spoiler territory while Lauren German takes her law enforcement role seriously on the series to play spoiler police. The whole time, Tom Ellis lounges around in a Netflix-branded bathroom and drinks from a Netflix-branded coffee cup, then making quips and looking, and as he does, devastatingly handsome. Besides thanking fans who helped keep the show alive, the teaser also plays to these fans, who by and large love not only the chemistry on-camera between the co-stars but also the playful and devilish attitudes they take off the screen while discussing the show. You can check out the teaser below.

“Netflix wanted to have Lucifer because they really love the show that we already had,” series star Tom Ellis told a crowd at last year’s ACE Comic-Con. “So we have been careful. We do not want to change our show too much because that is the show people really liked. But there were certain restrictions that we have when we were on network television that meant maybe we could not do as much as we wanted. So things like my bum now, which I was never allowed to show before. And a lot of people also want to see it. There really may be some bum shots this season. There’ll be multiple bum shots; after a scene, certainly, we shot the other day. I even want to stress. I think one of the reasons why people like our show is because it does not go all the way there. It is about the suggestion. It is about getting away with it, being cheeky and not vulgar. And we are still careful that we are not going to go into vulgarity. Everything is justified.”

The fourth season of Lucifer has yet no official release date, though fans have always assumed that it was likely the series would land in the second half of this year, with ten new episodes. So, are you excited for more Lucifer? Let us know in the comments!

Suicide Squad

“The Suicide Squad” Removes Will Smith’s Deadshot and Moves Idris Elba to New Role

The Suicide Squad won’t be replacing Will Smith’s Deadshot with Idris Elba as previously reported, though Elba will remain a part of the movie cast. The film was initially planning to have Elba take over the role for a new story but now has instead moved him to another character which hasn’t been revealed yet.

“Though it was previously reported that Idris Elba would be replacing Will Smith as Deadshot in the new pic, now sources tell Variety all parties including director James Gunn have decided to move on from the Deadshot character, with Idris Elba playing a new character in The Suicide Squad,” reports Variety. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has not commented on this decision.

The Suicide Squad continues to be quite a mystery on many fronts.

James Gunn is attached to direct the film with certain cast members from the original Suicide Squad set to appear. Viola Davis will be back as Amanda Waller, while Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney will reprise their roles as Rick Flag and Captain Boomerang, respectively.

“It is called The Suicide Squad,’ Shazam! producer Peter Safran told recently. “It is not Suicide Squad 2. It isn’t a sequel. I’ll leave that alone but, yes, it is called The Suicide Squad.

As for Idris Elba’s shifting in roles, it doesn’t mean that Will Smith will return to the franchise as Deadshot. The character is actually not expected to return in The Suicide Squad, at all.

“Warner Bros. and James Gunn moved instantly to add Idris Elba to the team after the director and actor sat down days after Will Smith’s departure,” notes Variety. “The meeting went so well that Idris Elba agreed on the spot to join the next installment, but even at that time it wasn’t set in stone whether he would be playing Deadshot or a brand-new member of the team.”

According to the same report, Margot Robbie expectedly will reprise her role as Harley Quinn for The Suicide Squad, on the heels of her upcoming Birds of Prey (and the Fabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

At present, The Suicide Squad does not yet have a release date. DC’s Shazam! is now in theaters.

The “Joker” Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix in Serious Supervillain Mode

“I used to think my life was a tragedy. But now I realize, it is a comedy.”

Get ready for a DC Comics-inspired story unlike any other as the first trailer for Joker has officially arrived. Warner Bros. gave a glimpse of Joker to the audiences at CinemaCon. A poster for Joker also debuted earlier in the day. Check out the full trailer above.

(Photo: Warner Bros.)

After director Todd Phillips previously broke the Internet by sharing star Joaquin Phoenix in costume, expectations have become pretty high for Joker. The film is set to be a dark cautionary tale about the iconic DC Comics supervillain, which will be unconnected from the larger DC Extended Universe.

“I do not have a lot to say about the film, as it is still taking shape but also because I want it to be a surprise. That said, there has been a lot of characters about what this film is and what it is not, and most of it has not been accurate,” said Phillips. “When the marketing department at Warner asked me the other day to describe the movie, I said, ‘I cannot.’ Then they said, ‘At least tell us the genre.’ And I thought about it for a minute and said, ‘It is a tragedy.’”

Joaquin Phoenix stars as Arthur Fleck/Joker, a failed stand-up comedian whose descent into madness turns him into the villain. Alongside the actor, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Robert De Niro, and Marc Maron also star in the film.

Still, this origin story for Batman’s archnemesis looks serious; and the trailer begins with Arthur Fleck in therapy.

“My mother always tells me to smile and put on a happy face,” the character says in voiceover, showing him helping bathe this mother (star Frances Conroy). “She told me that I had a purpose, to bring laughter and joy to the world.”

Then Arthur ends up getting attacked in the street, and being hit by a cab – an incident that seems to move him down a dark path. A “Taxi Driver” vibe permeates the trailer, with Joaquin Phoenix delivering a Travis Bickle-style voice-over about the decline of Gotham City. “Is it just me, or is it just getting crazier out there?” Arthur says.

And when Robert De Niro shows up as a Johnny Carson-esque talk show shot, the scene seemingly pays homage to another Martin Scorsese film, “The King of Comedy.” The trailer also shows him progressively trying out different Joker outfits. Arthur first dresses as a clown with a green afro. And eventually, he dyes his hair green for the trailer’s money shot of him in full costume. “I used to think my life was a tragedy,” says Joker. “But now I realized, it is a comedy.”

Joker is slated to premiere on October 4. DC’s Aquaman has grossed more than $1 billion since its opening back in December. The studio is also preparing to unveil the Zachary Levi starring in Shazam! on Friday.

Other upcoming DC films include: Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which is set to bow February 7, 2020; Wonder Woman 1984, which debuts on June 6, 2020, Aquaman 2 on December 16, 2020, with DC Super-Pets (due out May 21, 2021), The Batman (June 25, 2021), and Suicide Squad (August 6, 2021).

Director Joss Whedon Calls Henry Cavill the Best Superman Since Christopher Reeve

Recently, in what is surely not going to be a flame-war-igniting statement, Avengers and Justice League director Joss Whedon through down the gauntlet, with a post proclaiming that Henry Cavill is the best Superman since Christopher Reeve.

The director posted the statement to Twitter, saying: “[Henry] Cavill is a GREAT Superman – definitely the best since Reeves and could take the top spot with the right material/barber.”

01. SUPER G.O.A.T.

If that was not enough to invite all sorts of trolls out of the woodwork (both DCEU fans who hated Whedon’s Justice League, and fans of Marvel who hate Zack Snyder’s DCEU), Joss Whedon also committed the cardinal sin of misspelling Christopher Reeve’s name as “Reeves” in his original tweet.

Well, as we can probably expect, that was enough to open the floodgates.

Simple. Effective. Shade Level: 110%

We feel you, bro, even if we do not quite understand you.

Um, we are not sure what this picture is meant to convey, exactly, but we do agree that Henry Cavill ‘s Superman needs some better material under him.

Obviously, this issue was too big for just DC and Marvel references.

…because clearly the Internet does, Mr. Whedon.

So say all #ReleaseTheSnyderCut fanatics!

Ouch. It is really saying something when online fans don’t think you are good enough for the DCEU!

From the mouths of babes…

The DC Movie Universe continues with Shazam! on April 5, Joker on October 4, Birds of Prey (and the Fabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020, and The Batman on June 25, 2021.

“Aquaman” Director James Wan Suddenly Quits Twitter

Aquaman director James Wan is taking a break from Twitter. The filmmaker, who tweeted under the handle @creepypuppet will no longer be found on the website. James Wan is said to be focusing on upcoming projects now that his billion dollar plus-grossing blockbuster has completed its theatrical run. The director has left his little-used Instagram account untouched.

At present, James Wan has yet to be confirmed as director for the sequel of Aquaman but already dated by Warner Bros. for December 16, 2022. Previously, producer Peter Safran told THR of the four-year separation between Aquaman entries.

“[DC Films chief Walter Hamada], me, and Wan always shared the same philosophy, which is: you want to do it right,” Safran said. “You don’t want to do it fast. You just want to do it right.”

According to a report from Deadline, James Wan is expected to return, but he would be taking a break following production tax and promotional tour. Now Wan and the studio are on the hunt for a “seaworthy” script.

“I mean, like the people I work with goes a long way. That was the reason I came back when I did Insidious 2,” Wan said during an interview in December when asked if he intended to helm a sequel.

“But it is a weird one for me because actually, I do not know what I want to do next for the first time in my career. But I felt like Aquaman ticked a lot of boxes for me. After Furious 7, I want to do another action movie. I wanted to do a world of creation film. And I also wanted to do a superhero movie. Literally, Aquaman ticked all of those boxes for me.”

The filmmaker added he is now “in the sort of place like, do I kind of go back and make a smaller movie maybe as my next one, something a bit more intimate? If I can do a personal movie, maybe it is on a bigger scale. But I’m not sure at this point.”

At present, James Wan has numerous projects queued up as the producer, including Conjuring Universe spinoff The Curse of La Llorona, with Annabelle Comes Home, and the Swamp Thing TV series.

Aquaman will be available to own on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray on March 26.

“The Flash:” Ezra Miller Reportedly Could Exit Over Script Clash With Directors

The ongoing saga of The Flash standalone film now took another strange turn today with the report of Ezra Miller re-writing the script with the assistance of comics legend Grant Morrison. The story of Miller’s desire to tackle the film has come over a clash with directors John Francis Delay and Jonathan Goldstein over the tone. And that could ultimately result in the actor’s departure.

In some shocking Friday afternoon news, The Flash movie might soon be without a star. According to THR, Ezra Miller has taken it upon himself to take over scripting duties for the solo speedster flick. If the studio chooses to skip over the Morrison & Miller script in favor of one from The Flash directors, it is said that Ezra Miller could exit the role of Barry Allen.

Reports indicate the Morrison/Miller script has a much darker tone than that of the one Daley and Goldstein have on the table. It is said that Ezra Miller has an uphill battle in his quest after Warner Bros. is aiming for the light-hearted tones seen in both Aquaman – a billion-dollar blockbuster for DC – and Shazam!, the upcoming David F. Sandberg-led flick that has been a smash with critics.

For a standalone film of the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash has had a notoriously slow time making it to theaters. Ezra Miller has been attached to the role that Zack Snyder cast him for a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice but ever since, the film has struggled to gain any footing at Warner Bros. It is featured a rotating cast of directors before finally setting on Goldstein and Daley now over a year ago.

Last month, Ezra Miller was approached about the film’s delay in an international press stop for the latest Fantastic Beasts movie. Then he mentioned that the crew behind the flick was being meticulous as they moved forward with the property.

“Anyone who knows anything about Barry Allen also knows that he is always late,” Miller said. “But when he arrives, he gets the stuff done. And that is definitely how this film’s production schedule is proceeding. We are a little late.”

“But the reason why we’re late,” the actor explained. “And this is honest to god truth. We are all – and I include myself in this – we very meticulously focused on making a movie which is not just one of the greatest superhero movies that we can possibly make. The movie is going to be a gift to fans.”

According to that report, there is a reason why Warner Bros. allowed the re-write of this DC Comics movie.

And actually, it all comes down to the timing of Ezra Miller’s contract. His initial holding agreement for The Flash is set to expire in May. So we probably could be getting re-casting news very soon.

A recent rumor also suggested The Flash could go into production as soon as this November, which seems unlikely with Ezra Miller and Grant Morrison re-writing the script as well as the actor’s commitments to the Fantastic Beasts franchise. While J.K. Rowling’s third installment was delayed recently, the film is also expected to begin its production before the end of the year.

Now, we might be looking at yet another recast in the DC Comics Universe, that is now in the midst of regaining momentum after misfires from directors Zack Snyder, David Ayer, and Joss Whedon.

To his credit, Ezra Miller has explained that he’s dedicated to creating a Flash film that will make fans proud. And he wouldn’t do it unless he believed in the story.

We will wait to find out if The Flash movie is actually coming through over the next months as production rumoredly begins, as well as if Warner Bros. will go with Ezra Miller and Grant Morrison’s vision for the film – and what that means for writers/directors Daley and Goldstein.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 3:” Disney Reportedly Rehires Director James Gunn

Months and months after firing James Gunn for his decade-old inappropriate tweets, Disney now has reportedly reversed their decision regarding Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. After all, on Friday afternoon, the House of Mouse and Marvel Studios had changed their minds and officially brought James Gunn back to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Deadline broke the news, reporting that the decision was actually made months ago following conversations between Disney and Marvel Studios executives.

According to the latest report, Walt Disney Studios president Alan F. Horn, who also had a hand in James Gunn’s initial firing last summer, met with the filmmaker several times after he was removed from the position. The chairman of Disney was persuaded to change his mind after seeing Gunn’s public apology and his subsequent handling of the situation. Also, this case of Gunn was probably helped by his cast and peers, who were all vocal online and even in interviews defending the director.

At present, James Gunn had already completed his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that the film would use his script. Meanwhile, other directors were the subject of rumors, suggesting that Marvel was looking to replace James Gunn rather quickly. But that clearly was not the case.

However, the only complicated part of this entire situation is the involvement of James Gunn with Warner Bros. and DC.

After leaving Marvel, the director signed on to write and direct Suicide Squad 2. The film production is set to begin this year, and Marvel has agreed let Gunn complete his work on the DC project before heading back to the Guardians franchise. Recently, the roster and working title of Suicide Squad 2 have been revealed.

As for James Gunn, since his firing, he has kept things quiet on the social network for a time, but that changed after the Disney and Marvel Studios broke out in a collective cry of joy after they reversed the decision. Eventually, the filmmaker was back to Twitter to share a simple message of thanks for everyone who supported him in the recent months.

So, James Gunn will still helm the Suicide Squad sequel for Warner Bros. and DC before returning to Marvel to begin production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

What do you think of this decision from Disney? Are you excited to see James Gunn back in the director’s chair for Guardians 3? Share with us in the comments!

“Captain Marvel” Star Brie Larson Reveals Her Favorite Superhero Is Wonder Woman

Currently, Brie Larson’s portrayal of Captain Marvel is commanding the box office. And it looks like another female superhero has a special place in her heart.

During an interview with The Female Lead on the film’s red carpet, a young fan asked Brie Larson what female superhero is her favorite. And the actress revealed, she’s a fan of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman from DC.

“I really like Wonder Woman a lot,” Larson said. “I think she is super cool.”

Brie Larson has mentioned Wonder Woman in a fair share of other interviews. Recently, the director of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins took to social media to congratulate the team behind Captain Marvel on its success. And the film star Gal Gadot also shared artwork of the two with her kind words to Larson.

With Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel being the first two female-fronted solo superhero films in the modern-day DC and Marvel cinematic universes, it is safe to say that both have ended up making quite an impact.

“What was great about Wonder Woman was talking to female audience members afterward about how they felt watching the movie,” said the executive producer Jonathan Schwartz. “A lot of people I talked to just said. ‘I have never felt like that watching a movie before in my entire life. The character resonated with me in the ways I did not even know a character could resonate with me.’ That was so great to hear, and kind of an amazing thing.”

“I think the movie helped us understand how important movies like that are,” continued Schwartz. “So, in terms of making the movie [Wonder Woman] feel distinct, I think all these films chart their own courses anyway. And I think that means making the movie feel distinct. Not just from other female-led movies, but from all the Marvel movies as well, which I think we’ll try to do in every movie. It was not a new challenge necessarily. But it was the one I think we were extra-excited for because of the nature of what this movie means to people.”

Captain Marvel is now in theaters. Other upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies include Avengers: Endgame will be following on April 26, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5.

Upcoming DC films include:

  • Shazam! on April 5
  • Joker on October 10
  • Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020
  • Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020
  • The Batman on June 25, 2021
  • The Suicide Squad on August 6, 2021
